Chester “Chet” Frederick Young, 86 of West Chesterfield, NH died at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on September 23, 2025. Chet was born in West Craftsbury, VT on May 27, 1939, the son of Chester and Edith (McGovern) Young. Chet was raised and educated in West Dummerston, VT. Chet proudly served his country in the Navy and was honorably discharged following his active service. Chet married the love of his life, Judy Caroline Champney on December 31, 1960. Chet worked at Mackenzie Dairy, Keene NH; St. Johnsbury’s Trucking Company, Bellows Falls, VT and Walmart, Keene, NH. Chet then went on to run his own businesses: Chet’s Plowing & Rubbish Removal and West Chesterfield General Store in West Chesterfield, NH. Chet enjoyed gardening, plowing, recycling, reading, watching the Red Sox and feeding and watching birds. Chet also cherished his time spent with his family.
Chet is survived by his brother, James Young of Guilford, VT and his sister, Mabel Barnes of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Judy Hall (Earl Cook) of West Chesterfield, NH; son, Rick Young (Dana) of West Chesterfield, NH; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy (Kellie), Gabriel, Caroline, Caleb (Amber), Katherine (Nicholas) and Riley; 14 great-grandchildren, Rory, Owen, Kasey, Tia, Shay, Brooklyn, Adianna, Karymn, Braedon, Adrianna, Victoria, Annabeth, Thomas and Connor.
Chet is predeceased by his wife, Judy Young; parents Chester and Edith Young; brothers Robert Young and Gordon Young; and a sister Eunice Young.
Cremation was under the direction of Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Brattleboro, VT. A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Chesterfield West Cemetery on November 1, 2025 at 1 pm.
