On September 10, 1978, a beautiful baby girl was born to
Jennifer McClain and Bernard Edwards in Muskogee,
Oklahoma. This precious daughter was named Chevaughn
Tara McClain.
Chevaughn grew up in Muskogee, OK. She was the oldest of
two children in the family and was a member of Little Rose
Baptist Church.
During her youth, Chevaughn enjoyed volunteering at the
hospital as a Candy Striper. It was there that she learned the
value of giving and caring for others. She would later move to
Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she attended Nathan Hale High
School with the graduating Class of 1997. She was a proud
member of the Black Heritage Club while at Nathan Hale.
Chevaughn continued her work serving as a Cafeteria Food
Service Manager for Tulsa Public Schools, which she enjoyed
greatly. She was committed to serving the children of Tulsa
Public Schools until she received her greatest job yet,
becoming a mother.
Being a mom was her greatest gift and greatest joy. While
serving others and being the best mom she could be, she was
fighting her toughest battle as a sickle cell warrior. Chevaughn
was also involved with several local sickle cell organizations,
where she would volunteer her time and enjoyed being in
community with others like herself who were fighting to
survive.
On June 9th, 2025, she lost that battle but received her Crown
and gained the Victory over death, joining her son, Ta
'Ron Capers, her Mom, Jennifer McClain and her Dad, Bernard
Edwards in Heaven.
She leaves a beautiful memory in the hearts of her family; her
children, Tristan Capers and Embrie Bonner, both of Tulsa,
OK; her brother, Brandon Mayfield, Tulsa, OK; her sister,
Kendra Olmstead (Keith), Muskogee, OK; two nieces, one
nephew, her loving grandmother, Jeannette Edwards; and a
caravan of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss
her dearly.
You may visit Chevaughn, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Muskogee on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 between the hours of 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
The Time of Reflection, celebrating the life of Chevaughn will commence on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at High Noon, in the most holy sanctuary of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Reverend Gary Hall, Sr., the Senior Pastor will officiate and Reverend Henry McVay, Pastor of Wayland Baptist Church of Eufaula, Oklahoma will deliver the eulogy.
The Christian Committal and burial will follow in the sacred grounds of the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
