Chong-Kuei Hsieh (nee Chou), age 97, a resident of Naperville, IL for 35 years, formerly of China and Taiwan, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at her home.

Chong-Kuei was born August 11, 1927, in Qingdao, in the Shandong province of China. Chong-Kuei was the beloved daughter of Shawn Chou and Li Chou. Her father was a high-ranking official in the Qing Dynasty and served as a mayor. Chong-Kuei had one older sister, three older brothers, one younger brother and one younger sister. They all remained in mainland China after 1949.

Chong-Kuei was very close to her third older brother (a graduate of Beijing Tsinghua University) and second older brother (a graduate of Shanghai Chiao Tung University). Chung-Kuei graduated from Qingdao Fulun high school in 1944.

Chong-Kuei met and married her husband Chung-Chuan Hsieh in 1947 before moving to Taiwan in 1949. After her marriage, Chong-Kuei worked as an accountant in Taiwan's Sugar Corporation headquartered at Tainan while raising her sons Show-Ping, Shiow-Ming, and Shiu-Lun. A devoted mother and wife, Chong-Kuei moved to the United States in December of 1990 where she continued her role of doting grandmother to her many grandchildren.

Chong-Kuei was an accomplished artist, a talented cook, and a woman who - despite characterizing herself as timid - was unafraid of life's challenges. She fled to Taiwan with her husband when the Chinese Communist party took over mainland China in 1949, raising a family without the assistance of family and friends, and then later became a United States citizen at the age of 68. She loved her family and devoted herself to the health and happiness of her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful Catholic and loved God through serving and supporting others in her community.

Chong-Kuei was the beloved wife of 64 years to the late Chung-Chuan Hsieh, who preceded her in death on October 14, 2011. She was the loving mother of Show-Ping (Freda) Hsieh of Naperville, IL, Shiow-Ming (Wan-Wen) Hsieh of Taipei, Taiwan, and Shiu-Lun "Jerry" (Tomoko Kosuge) Hsieh of Naperville, IL, adored grandmother of Angela (David) Dremann and Alina (John) Lai; John (Liz) Hsieh and Homer (Cheryl) Hsieh; and Evan Hsieh, cherished great-grandmother of August, Eleanor and Samuel Dremann; Emmanuelle and Elias Lai: Alyssa, Hannah, Benjamin, Sarah, Christopher, Leah, Emily, Zachary and Anthony Hsieh.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, 1:00-5:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St, Naperville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 28, 10:30 AM at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Rd, Naperville, IL 60540, (630) 355-4545.

Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
