Chris Alan Dunn was born to Charles Dunn and Junell Bingham on October 15, 1959 in Lubbock, Texas, and passed away on March 12, 2025 in Plainview, Texas. Growing up in West Texas, he attended schools in Meadow, Levelland and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1978. He went on to run track at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. During his time at South Plains, he met the love of his life, Karla, and they were married on August 7, 1982. Chris went into ministry as a pastor and church planter, serving in many communities spanning from Texas to Colorado, eventually settling in Bowie, Texas where he planted River of Life Church in 1996. He served the community of Bowie faithfully for 16 years, and moved back to West Texas to not only start a business in the flooring and restoration industry, but to also be close to family.
Chris and Karla were married for over 42 years and raised three children, Kirby, Kendra and Kevin.
Chris was a father figure and mentor to many throughout his life and demonstrated the heart of God through sacrificial love, faithfulness and constant encouragement. He was always there when you needed him, even if it required answering a call at 2 am, getting on a plane to fly across the country, sitting in a hospital chair all night, or giving up career opportunities to be there for the ones he loved. Chris never met a stranger; he seemed to always know someone no matter where he was in the world. He had an innate ability to disarm people to the point that they would bare their souls to him, and always made it his goal to encourage and pray for people. With a love for planting churches and mission work, he ministered extensively in Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, India, Mexico and the UK. No matter what he was doing or where he was, he was able to impact people’s lives and point them to Christ. He loved his family more than anything and was an amazing husband and father.
Chris is preceded in death by his son, Kirby, his parents, and his siblings; Ronnie, Karan, Mike and Ricky. Chris is survived by his wife, Karla, and children; Kendra (Jason) Huckabee, Kevin (Shelby) Dunn and daughter in law Catherine, and grandchildren; Judah, Ethan, Charis, Abigail, Cassie and baby Dunn on the way to Kevin & Shelby.
