Chris Allan McElyea was born on January 8th, 1963 in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to John D. And Margaret Ann McElyea. He grew up in Winnsboro, where he graduated in 1981. Following graduation, Chris moved to Tyler, Texas, where he began his 28 year career with the United States Postal Service and met his loving wife of 38 years, Annette. Over time, Chris and Annette were blessed with 3 children: Shelby, Lucas, and Preston. During his time with the Post Office, Chris worked primarily in Tyler, Lovelady, Hawkins, and Winnsboro. Chris spent many years serving on the Board of Trustees for the Winnsboro Independent School District. He also managed the Winnsboro Manor senior living apartments. He loved to travel and go on vacation with his family. One of his greatest joys was being called "Poppaw" by his 4 precious grandchildren.

Chris loved to preach, teach, lead singing, and even host a weekly online radio program. He spent many hours working with Camp Ida, the Home of Recovery and Restoration, and most recently, the Lamb's Academy of Biblical Studies.
Chris was preceded in death by his father, John D. McElyea, and step-father, David Morgan.
