Chris Allen Nygaard

Chris Nygaard, age 61, passed away of natural causes on August 13, 2025. Chris was born on February 24, 1964, to the late Allen and Shirley (Erdahl) Nygaard.

Chris was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Stoughton, Wisc. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1982. Chris was a crew chief in the Army National Guard and served for twenty years with the 147th Aviation Regiment out of Madison, Wisc. He did several tours including Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 where he received a Bronze Star. Chris retired as a Sergeant First Class. Chris attended MATC and received an Associate Degree in auto mechanics. He worked for his father at the Nygaard Shell Station in Stoughton. He went on to work as a mechanic for the City of Madison in the Municipal, Street and Fire Department garages and eventually became a supervisor at Madison Metro.

At the age of 60, Chris spent six months employed at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. It was the adventure of a lifetime.

Chris is survived by his daughter, Anja Gyland Nygaard; wife Seunghae Nygaard and her son, Samuel Park; former wife, Julie Gyland Nygaard; sister, Lisa (William) Keenan; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Norval Morgan; aunt, Janet Erdahl; cousins, Jeffrey (Monica) Morgan, Kevin (Helen) Morgan, Michael (Ann) Morgan; and many other relatives.

Chris is preceded in death by his parents; children, Jacqueline and Nicholas Gyland Nygaard; and other beloved family members.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date.
