Chris Zurn, 44, of Adrian, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at his home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO. Interment followed in the Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Adrian Fire Department.
Chris grew up in his childhood home in Louisburg, KS, with his father, Tom, and mother, Dee. Chris attended Louisburg High School, graduating in 1997. He would go on to further his education at the Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, where he obtained his degree in Automotive Diesel Technology in 1999. Chris' mechanical passions eventually led him to a position with the Missouri Department of Transportation in 2005. His hard work, dedication, and strong work ethic earned him his current role as the equipment technician supervisor that he has held since 2013. Chris was incredibly dedicated and found it hard to take time off because there was always so much work to do. His creativity led to two innovations that were designed to protect and promote MODOT employee safety on the job. These innovations would go on to be adopted nationwide, also earning him the Missouri Governor's Award of Distinction.
In 2005, Chris met Shawna. The two united in marriage in 2007 and relocated to Adrian in May 2008, where they started their family by having two children, Callie Rose and Thomas Roy. He was a proud father and enjoyed watching his children grow into the people they are today. Chris enjoyed going on hunting and fishing trips with friends. He was an exceptional cook like his mother. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining for friends and family including his MODOT family. Over the years, Chris enjoyed volunteering his time and experience maintaining and upgrading the Adrian Fire Department's fleet. He was extremely proud to be a part of designing and outfitting the newest rescue truck. Although he was a mechanic by trade, he could also be found enjoying his passion alongside his best friend, Tyler, at "the Shop." Chris was an incredible husband, father, friend, and overall human being.
Chris is preceded in death by his mother, Dee Greving. He is survived by his wife, Shawna Zurn; daughter, Callie Zurn; son, Thomas Zurn; father, Thomas Greving, of Louisburg, KS; sister, Niki Greving (Troy Myers), of Ottawa, KS; sister, Kellie Joeckel, of Belton, MO; sister, Heather Sturm, of Belton, MO; and grandfather, Charles Zurn, of Kansas City, KS.
