COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Christene Burgess, age 65, passed away peacefully at her residence in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Born on December 24, 1959, in Overton County, Tennessee, Christene was known for her warm spirit, hard work, and dedication to her family.
Throughout her life, Christene dedicated herself to hard work and was always looking for someone in need of help to be a blessing to. Her personality was unmatched and she was a source of encouragement to many. She was exceedingly fun to be around, which led to many calling her "giggles", which was a fitting nick-name for such a joyful lady.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Kirstie (Jason) Jernigan and Jennifer (Ricky) Green, who will cherish her memories dearly. Christene took immense joy in her grandchildren, Clay (Macy) Jernigan, Holly Green, and Max Green. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to Dani and Dallas Jernigan. Christene was also a loving sister to Phyllis (Boyd) Whittaker, Linda (Larry) Singer, and Cindy Houchens, and leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Christene is preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Helen Wright Harness; her husband, Rick Burgess; and her brothers, Harold Dean, Dennis, Jerry, and Jeffery Harness. The void left by her passing will be felt deeply by her family and friends.
Christene had a passion for yard sales and tied up countless hours in yard work. She also found joy in playing bingo, often gathering with friends and family to relive the nostalgic moments of friendly competition. Her love for life and her infectious enthusiasm for simple pleasures brought happiness to those around her.
A Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Life Church-The Edge Facility with Pastor Eddie Turner officiating.
Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery with Jason Jernigan, Clay Jernigan, Ricky Green, Max Green, James Burgess, Jordan Burgess and Jacob Burgess serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Life Church -The Edge Facility and again on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of services at the church.
Christene will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of everyone she touched.
