Christian Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2025.
Christian Gordon Anderson was born in Fairbanks, AK, on February 6, 1948, to Olive Ahlook Gordon Anderson of Kaktovik and John "Johnny" Eric Anderson Jr of Flat. Chris was gifted with sharp intelligence, a quick wit, the talent for playing a 12-string acoustic guitar, and a beautiful singing voice. He graduated from Lathrop High School in 1966, where he met his first wife, Margaret "Peg" Moulton. After Peg graduated in 1967, the high school sweethearts married, and while students at UAF, gave birth to their daughter, Rhonda Kay, in 1970.

Chris went on to be an active community member in the Fairbanks region through many capacities and for the service of others. His many positions included working for his father at Johnny's Express on Minnie Street, Fairbanks Native Association, Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Golden Days and Ice Festival events, Fairbanks City Council, Alaska Native Tourism Association, Tundra Times, Traditional Native Arts Panel of the State Council of the Arts, Alcoholics Anonymous, Tanana Chiefs Conference, Doyon, World Eskimo and Indian Olympics, and, more recently, the Girl Scouts of Fairbanks. He met and fell in love with Irma Valera Moreno, marrying in 2007 in Lima, Peru, and Fairbanks, Alaska. Chris was devastated by her passing in 2020.

Though a world traveler, Chris chose to be a lifelong resident of his beloved Fairbanks. Only in recent weeks before his passing did he concede that, due to marked cognitive decline and a failure to thrive, he may need to move to Massachusetts to be with his daughter for more daily care. It is with great sadness and a tinge of gratefulness that, on August 15, 2025, Chris peacefully passed at home in his favorite chair, as he might have wished.

Chris leaves behind his daughter, Rhonda Kay Alak Anderson (Nikos Marmaras), granddaughter, Nayana Olivia Shik Ahlook Marmaras of Colrain, Massachusetts, and former wife, Peg Moulton Powers (Lyman) of Wilmington, VT, as well as numerous aunties, uncles, and cousins across Alaska. He was predeceased by his mother, Olive, father, Johnny, and wife, Irma.

As Chris wished, he will be buried on Birch Hill near his grandfather, Johan (John) Eric Anderson, and father, together watching the weather moving in across the Tanana and Chena River valley for time immemorial. The Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in July 2026. His daughter will announce the details at a later date. Please consider making donations in his honor to the Fairbanks Senior Center Meals on Wheels program.
