Christian Sidney Harstick age, 86 years old of Springfield Missouri passed away at 8:35am on August 27, 2024. He was born the son of Christian Frank Harstick and Esther Amelia (Loesche) Harstick in St Louis, Missouri on January 3, 1938.
He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in St Louis, Missouri, a member of Webster Gardens Lutheran Church in Webster Groves, Living Word Lutheran Church in Woodlands, Texas and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Springfield, Missouri. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Washington University in St Louis and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He then went on to earn his Master's degree in Chemistry at St Louis University. He enjoyed singing in all the church choirs as well as the Messiah Project, Mid America Singers and Living Harmony Quartet. He was a Master Gardner of Christian County in Missouri. He traveled the world with his careers at Monstanto, Edwin Cooper, Ethyl Corporation and Albemarle Corporation. He also loved traveling with his wife, friends and family. He enjoyed his retirement staying active with volunteering and spending time with friends at Vino and the Eagles Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents Christian Frank Harstick and Esther Amelia (Loesche) Harstick, his sister Barbara (Harstick) Smith, his first wife Harriet Harnagel Harstick and his brother-in-law Gerald Kwentus.
He is survived by his wife Patricia D. (Rigdon, Sample) Harstick; his sister-in- law Carolyn Harnagel Kwentus; his three daughters Cheryl (Harstick) Ruhr (Michael Ruhr), Amy (Harstick) Jacobsmeyer (James Jacobsmeyer) and Kristin (Harstick) Heydt (Matthew Heydt); his three stepsons Scott Sample (Lan Sample), Mark Sample (Christine Sample) and Travis Sample (Adriana Sample); his 18 grandchildren, who lovingly called him Poppy, Christian Ruhr (Autumn), Mark Ruhr (Clair), Daniel Ruhr (Samantha Widmann), Elizabeth Schrader (Kyle Rolfes) James Schrader, Sarah Schrader, Andrew Jacobsmeyer, Henry Jacobsmeyer, Sydney Heydt, Henry Heydt, Jack Heydt (Kimberly), Jackie Nguyen (Tanner), Jennifer Sample, Alyssa (Sample) Hawkins (Justin), Jessica Sample, Stephen Sample, Isabella Sample and Jonas Sample, who he adored all so dearly, and loved them more than anything. Also surviving him are his 3 great-grandchildren Asher Anthony Ruhr, Rowyn Amelia Hawkins and an expected boy (Ruhr) in October; his nieces and nephew Susanne (Kwentus) Voss (Keith), Karen Kwentus, Denise (Smith) Davila and Jeff Smith (Twila); as well as numerous other in-laws, cousins, nieces/nephews and friends.
A private service will be held for the family at a later date. The family asks for no flowers but in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to American Cancer Society in Chris' name.
