Christian Smith Obituary

Christian R. Smith
02/03/1948 - 02/12/2026
Christian R. Smith, 78, died at his beloved ranch in Wimberly, Texas on Friday, February 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 3, 1948, in New York City, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Smith. Christian graduated from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA, where he later served as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Institutional Relations and met his future wife, Pebbles Wadsworth. After he and Pebbles moved to Austin, Texas, he founded and was director of Planning and Budget for Travis County, in which Austin is located. Ranching became a major passion of his.
To those who knew him, Christian was a giant of heart and mind-classy, with a childlike grin and an exceptional competence in all he pursued. A remarkable listener, he was endlessly intrigued by other people's stories and perspectives. In his final days, he reflected deeply on his life's journey and concluded that examining why we err is where wisdom is found.
Christian passed over to his next journey with his characteristic optimism, sensitivity, and curiosity, telling each person he touched, "Thank you for sharing your life with me and trusting me. I am deeply humbled."
Clearly, he will be waiting for his family and friends to help them in this amazing transition when it is their blessed time. The light was indeed bright as he crossed over.
A farewell gathering is planned for a future date.
