Christine Ann Benson

ROCKFORD – Christine "Christy" Ann Benson, age 78, of Rockford passed away peacefully at home Tuesday June 25, 2024. Born in Rockford on August 21, 1945 to Frank & Isabelle Johnson (Loy). Chris retired from Sundstrand Corporation after 40 years of service; then worked for many years at the Rockford Speedway, a job she truly enjoyed. An avid shopper and collector of all things Mickey Mouse, she loved stock-car racing, Elvis Presley and an ice cold Coca Cola, oftentimes bringing her own when it wasn't on the menu. A proud Disney Vacation Club Member, she visited all the parks and cherished the memories of traveling the country camping & touring numerous spontaneous destinations with her family & friends. Loving, kind and truly one in a million; beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, she will remain forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Kenneth Benson; daughter, Vicki Benson; grandchildren, Christopher (Jenelle) Benson, Caitlyn (Chris) Simross and Brady (Kaitlyn Yeager) Starling; great grandchildren, Jack & Nora Benson and Raylan & Walker Simross; sister, Suellyn (late James) Kelso; dear aunt, Harriet Brown; numerous nieces & nephews; lifelong best friend, Sharon Miller; and beloved dog, Elsie. She is predeceased by her parents; infant brother, Sanford Johnson; beloved sister, Cheri "Chub" (Rich) Hinerichsen; and grandson, Joshua Copus.
Funeral Services held Friday June 28, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Avenue, Rockford with visitation from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Interment at Davis Cemetery, Rockford. Memorials to the family.
