Our beloved mother Christine Jenkins-Brown gained her wings on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025. Christine peacefully went on to glory after fighting her medical conditions for years. "She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the world on her shoulders and her oxygen tank in her hand, yet she made it look like a pair of wings."
Christine was born on September 24, 1955, to the late Moses and Mary Jenkins. She was the 7th of fourteen children. Growing up, she received her education in the Chesapeake Public School system. After her marriage to James Brown Jr., she moved to
Portsmouth, VA, where she raised her three daughters. She was a kind and patient companion, mother & bonus mom, a devoted grandmother, as well as a compassionate sister and aunt. Always ready to listen, encourage, or share a good laugh. Christine later joined Saint Paul Holiness Pentecostal Church in
Portsmouth, VA, and served as a missionary shortly before her health began to decline. She was a woman of faith, warmth, unwavering love, and quiet strength. She carried herself with grace. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, such as playing card games, spending hours sewing beautiful creations, piecing together puzzles with patience and focus, challenging herself with her favorite phone games, hosting her Pokeno game nights for her family and friends, and relaxing with a good movie. Besides serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Christine had great joy in her family. She cherished every conversation, all the laughs or visits spent with her friends and loved ones. Her presence had a way of making others feel safe, understood, and valued. She led by example, showing the importance of faith, patience, kindness, love, family, and community in everyday life. Knowing Christine was to know a rare and genuine soul. She was someone who was a true confidant, who embraced others without judgment; instead, she celebrated them without hesitation. Her smile would brighten any room. Her grace could calm even the heaviest heart. She lived each day with gratitude, always finding beauty in the simplest things while reminding others to do the same. "Honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praise" (Proverbs 31:31)
