Christopher Carter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 19, 2026.
Christopher Michael Carter, 35, passed away peacefully on Thursday night, January 15, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Chris was born on August 29, 1990, in Bloomington, Illinois. He is the son of Tim and Sherry Carter of Northfield and his mother, Dona Carter of Florida. Chris came to Northfield to live with his father and step-mother in 2010, where he attended Northfield High School, graduating in June of 2011. Chris later moved to live at the Highland House group home located in Northfield in May of 2012, where he resided until his passing.

Chris loved watching funny movies, spending time with his family and friends, participating in Special Olympics, listening to music or stories read to him, having a boys day out, going on walks with his dad, or unexpectedly singing the way only Chris could, but most of all he enjoyed being around other people, sharing a joke or just interacting with them. Blessed with a tremendous sense of humor, Christopher's heart-felt smile and contagious laughter could light up a room and lift even the heaviest of spirits!

Born with a congenital medical condition (CDG), Chris made the most of his time on earth while battling his physical handicaps and medical conditions. Finding a way to smile, even when enduring great pain or discomfort, Chris touched so many with his ability to express happiness and love. So many of his caregivers who watched over him through the years remember his happy, loving smile and bright eyes. Their love for Chris shown clearly by their concern and kindness as they cared for him.

Survivors include his mother, Dona Carter, of Ft. Myers, Florida; his father, Tim Carter, and Step-mother Sherry Carter of Northfield; his brothers Samuel Asante (North Carolina) and Matthew Dumouchel (Hawaii); his Aunt Becky and Uncle Scott of Pownal, Maine; his Uncle Mike and Aunt Stevie of Denver, Colorado; two housemates, numerous caregivers, and the staff at his group home. Chris' family is grateful to all of the caregivers, friends of family, and all those close to him for their heart-felt words and prayers.

We are extremely grateful for the loving care and kindness provided to Chris through the years by the staff at his group home and Epic Enterprises - where Chris participated in programming following high school - and by the Laura Baker Association, who provided services to enrich the quality of his life.

A private memorial service is planned at his group home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Epic Enterprise, Inc. of Dundas, MN, or to the Laura Baker Services Association of Northfield, MN.
