Christopher Hunter Chavis

Christopher Hunter Chavis was born on March 16, 1989, in Lander, Wyoming. He passed away on December 9, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose life was defined by service, loyalty, and a deep love for his family and community.

Christopher is survived by his parents, Charles and Naomi Chavis, his wife, Drew Chavis, and his children, Amelia, Caledon (Cubby), Christina, Mason, and Joseph. His brother Chuck Chavis and his wife Ashely Chavis, as well as their children Aniyah, Thorin, and Remington (Remi). He is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Corrine Compton Kitchen and Dorothy Chavis, his grandfather Joe “Donkey” Chavis, and his uncles, Russell Savage Sr. and David Kitchen.

Christopher had a strong connection to the outdoors and found joy in fishing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons, where his creativity, humor, and camaraderie were evident to all who played alongside him.

His career reflected his commitment to protecting and serving his people. Christopher began his service on the Wind River Indian Reservation working in housing security, and later became a dispatcher for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He ultimately fulfilled his calling by becoming a Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Officer, dedicating his life to the safety and well-being of the community he served. Throughout his law enforcement career, Christopher received multiple commendations, including a Life Saving Award and Medal of Valor, recognizing his courage, professionalism, and selfless dedication to duty. He served with honor, compassion, and unwavering commitment, earning the deep respect of his colleagues and community.

Christopher’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he loved fiercely, and the service he gave selflessly. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

An all-night wake will be held beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025, at his mother’s home, located at 9612 Highway 287, Lander, Wyoming.

Funeral services will be held at the same location on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Sacajawea Cemetery in Fort Washakie, Wyoming.
