Christopher Curling was welcomed joyfully into the embrace of Jesus in the early hours of August 5, 2024. We are convinced it was not long after that he was cradled in the arms of his mother.
Chris was trapped in a severely developmentally delayed mind for most of his life, and in an infection-wracked, failing body for the last few months. He is now whole, redeemed, and glowingly healthy in mind and body. He knows his Savior, he knows his mom. He knows joy beyond belief.
Chris' tastes were simple: tasty food, a comfy chair, some Enya tunes, and a fluffy white sock (or two) at the ready. As long as he had a sock in hand (or mouth), he was a happy camper. He despised hats. He relished neck massages. He had a sweet little Buddha belly. Water was not high up on his list of favorite beverages. What was? OJ! He could surprise you with some cuddly moments. He was stubborn. While you could not remotely describe Chris as Mr. Social, he was most content knowing his friends and family were close by. Even though he was non-verbal, and we were never quite sure what was going on behind his many facial expressions, he had a way of letting you know what he needed or how he felt. He preferred to sleep like a toddler, stomach down, tush up. Yes, he was adorable like that. He looked far younger than his 58 years--the cares of this life not impacting his skin the way it does all of ours.
Throughout Chris' life, God placed immensely wonderful caregivers around him. During the last few years, Chris was cared for by an adventurous, unbelievably compassionate pair of ladies. They took him all over Colorado. They brought him out to visit family in Arizona and toured the whole Four Corners area. We don't think we ever saw him smile so big as we have these last two years.
Chris was preceded in death by his father, Chesley Dwain Curling, and his mother, Mary Ann Schweitzer.
He is survived by his sister, Katie Hill (Jeff), brother, Matt Osterman (Rachel), first cousins: Rick (Bonnie), Gayle (James), Ray, and Penny (Scott), and his nephews and nieces: Caitlyn, Daniel, Troy, Holly, and Kelly.
