Christopher Michael Fogu, known affectionately as Chris to his friends and loved ones, departed from this world on January 22, 2025, after a valiant struggle with congestive heart failure. Born on October 11, 1967, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Chris's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a passion for music, and a career that spanned over three decades marked by exemplary leadership.
Chris's early years were spent in the community of Chicago Heights, where he attended Crete Monee High School, laying the groundwork for a future that would be as impactful as it was cherished. After completing his education, Chris dedicated himself to a career at Power Cartage, where he would rise to the position of Vice President, serving the company and its people for over 30 years with distinction and integrity.
Chris was a man whose life was defined by the love he had for his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Cynthia Fogu, and their son Joshua, along with his daughter-in-law, Krystyne. His legacy will live on through the joys and achievements of his grandchildren, Kyle and Amaya, whom he adored immensely. Chris's bond with his family extended to his siblings, Donna (Dave), Denise (Roger), Sal (Debbie), Caroline (George), Carol (Freddie), and Connie (Greg), all of whom he shared countless cherished moments. Preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Fogu nee Fitzgerald and John Fogu, as well as his brother Jay, Chris's memory will be a beacon of love and warmth for all who knew him. He will also be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved him dearly.
A man of many interests, Chris found solace in the strings of his guitar, the thrill of a new voyage whether by sea or land, and the simple pleasure of spending time with those he held close to his heart. His love for Kiss, Alice Cooper and Red-Hot Chile Peppers was only eclipsed by his love of sunny and warm vacations. When he could combine the music with the vacation, he was in his happy place. His work at Power Cartage was respected and admired by the those he worked with in the tough trucking industry. Chris never missed an opportunity to find new ways to excel in the workplace and always sought new and innovative ways to get the job done.
In his passing, Chris leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of kindness was a cornerstone in the lives of many, providing support and laughter in equal measure. As the celebrated author, Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Chris made everyone he knew feel loved and valued, which is a testament to the remarkable person he was.
Chris passed away at his home, surrounded by the love and care of his family. His final days were spent in the comfort of the home he had built with his loved ones, sharing memories and making every moment count. His departure from this world was peaceful, and those who knew him take solace in the knowledge that his suffering has ended and that his spirit continues to watch over them.
