Christopher Garner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Branford Dawson Funeral Home Inc. - Temple on Feb. 28, 2026.
Christopher Glen Garner was born January 19, 1978, to Donnie Campbell and Tracy E. Garner Gooden. From the very beginning, Chris brought warmth, strength, and joy into the lives of those around him. Christopher eventually met and married his best friend and the love of his life, Mildred, on June 1, 2007. Together, they built a beautiful life and family.

Christopher was previously employed by Walmart in Round Rock, Temple, and Dickinson, Texas, where he was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee until his health began to decline. Beyond his strong work ethic, Chris was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a wonderful, attentive son to his mother. Affectionately known as "Ball," Christopher stayed deeply involved in the lives of his family and friends. His passion was cars - he loved restoring them and installing powerful sound systems. You could always hear him coming from far away, music playing loud and proud. He treasured time spent with his grandson, Kendrick Jr., guiding him with love and wisdom, and he especially enjoyed attending family gatherings where laughter and fellowship filled the room.

Survivors are his devoted wife, Mildred; his mother, Tracy; his father, Donnie; his bonus father, William R. Holder; his children: Kendrick Benson Sr., Derrick Lewis, Kamesha Lewis, and Majesty Garner; his nine grandchildren: Kendrick Benson Jr., Key'Marion ("King") Benson, Jailah Wheelock, Derrick Jackson, Rémy Jackson, Ethan Johnson, Ayden Johnson, Erian Johnson, and Thyri Griffin; seven bonus brothers: Harold Pruitt (Storm), Albert Dixon (Kena), Cleveland Gossett (Cassandra), Patrick Geiger (Tasha), George Allen (Kristy), Jasper Coppage Jr. (Nicole), and Antione Whittman (Tammie); his aunts, Pam J. Freeman (Johnnie), Debra A. Moore, and Suzanne M. McDonald (Stephen); his uncle, William R. Garner Jr. (Bea); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Chris was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, William R. and Myrtle Fletcher Garner; his daughter, Patrice Desha Benson; his grandson, Montrae Jackson; and his bonus brother, Eric Sanders.
