Christopher Edward Gorman, 66, passed away of complications from Parkinson's Disease on
July 16, 2024, just shy of his 67th birthday.
Christopher was born on July 20, 1957 to Richard and Lucille (Dacre) Gorman, the youngest of
5 children. He and his siblings, Linda, Carole, Rich and Clare, grew up spending their
afternoons and summers playing in the ideal hometown setting of their dead-end street and
Parkway Oval in Tuckahoe, NY. He spent his summers mowing grass at the local golf course,
launching a lifelong love of golf. While attending Fordham University, Christopher became
captain of the golf team prior to graduating with a degree in Business. After graduation,
Christopher spent a summer working on an oil rig in Utah, a transforming experience he would
refer to for the rest of his life.
Christopher met his wife, Teresa (Plutino) while working at Lerner's department store in
Yonkers, NY. They were married in 1982 and had their two daughters, Angela (1989) and
Christina (1993), who they raised in Ossining, NY. Christopher and Teresa spent the next phase
of their life cultivating an active and memorable childhood for their daughters, spending
summers swimming, playing kickball, hit the bat, and running bases on their own dead-end
street. Christopher instilled in his family the importance of play and experiences. He could
always find a way to make things special and find creative ways to lead his family in the
exploration of new places. With his extended family, Christopher was consistently able to recall
details of and participate in the lives of his nieces and nephews, fostering close connections
with them.
During the early days of computer technology, Christopher worked as a software developer for
IBM, and TIAA Financial Services. He later taught PE and History at St. Barnabas in the Bronx,
and Computer Education at Corpus Christi in Port Chester. He found unexpected joy in this
transition in vocation, bringing with him the ability to share his knowledge with those he taught.
The past 18 years of Christopher's life brought severe challenges from early-onset Parkinson's
disease, and from the unexpected passing of his daughter, Christina, the effects of which would
stay with him for the rest of his life. Despite these struggles, he maintained his sense of humor,
love of golf, and the desire to be near those closest to him. He often expressed gratefulness at
having the unwavering support of his family.
Christopher is survived by his wife, Teresa, daughter, Angela and her fiancé, Ethan, siblings and
spouses Carole and Tom, Rich and Bianca, Clare and Jeff, sister-in-law and spouse, Claire and
Frank, and brother-in-law, John, as well as a large, extended family of loving nieces and
nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda, and daughter, Christina.
An informal gathering was held at the Gorman home in Ossining on Saturday, July 20 to
celebrate the life of Christopher. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations
be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, in Christopher's name.
