Christopher Grimmett Obituary

Grimmett, Christopher
EAST GREENBUSH - Christopher D. Grimmett, 70, of East Greenbush, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital. He fought bravely against illness, striving valiantly for more time with his love. Ultimately, the Lord chose to call him home. In his last days, he was surrounded by those whom he loved and by those who loved him.
Christopher was born in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son of the late Claud and Dolores (Rush) Grimmett. He was a free spirited youth who found a lifelong passion for music. A passion he carried as a bassist and driving force behind the band "Jaded Heart." His days as a secret Rock Star would last until he enlisted in the Armed Services. He proudly served as a Yeoman Senior Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, receiving numerous decorations, medals, badges, and campaign ribbons throughout his distinguished military career. Upon retiring from the Navy, Chris founded the eternally outdated, but always successful website www.chrisguitars.com. There was a certain charm to the website which was born in the late '90s and never seemed to grow up. Real guitar enthusiasts knew that was the place to go for an honest price on a real vintage guitar. Adam Sandler once bought a "Chris Guitar." A beloved son, brother, and husband, Chris's favorite title might have been proud uncle. He shared a very strong and unique bond with each and every niece and nephew. They all had inside jokes and Chris was always a favorite. They all knew how much uncle Chris cared for them. Chris was a communicant and usher at the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, and was a devoted godfather to his nephew, Emmett Day. He was also a diehard Yankees fan.
Chris met the love of his life, Heather, while both were serving in the Navy together in London. Married in 1995, they spent 30 wonderful years together as husband and wife. They loved to travel, spend time with friends, be parents to their beloved pets, or drop some chips down at a table in Vegas or Atlantic City. Chris once won a poker hand in Vegas with a Royal Flush. He promptly took his winnings to buy his wife a pair of Manolo Blahniks or as Chris like to call them – Manilow Blocknicks. Lucky in love, lucky in life.
Christopher is survived by his loving wife, Heather Grimmett (née Day); his sister, Brenda Toms; brother-in-law, Ron Toms; nieces and nephews, Clela Toms and husband, Sam Wackerle; grandnephews, Maddox and Otis; and niece, Deanna Toms. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Kathryn Montross; uncle, Todd Akins; brother and sisters-in-law, Jason Day (Jodi Day); nephew, Emmett; niece, Reegan Day; brother and sister-in-law, Skip Montross (Sherri Montross); niece, Mia; and nephew, Jack Montross. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Bruce Grimmett; and his grandmother, Clela Rush.
Christopher had a deep love for animals and shared his home with several beloved pets, Buddy, Muffin, L.G., Gray, Tigers, White-Nose, and Pig-e-lette. It is certain that when he was called home he was first met by the pets that had been waiting for him, Max, Murph and Spotty. Chris loved to help and care for any animal that needed it. As was his wish, contributions in Christopher's memory may be made to the Whiskers Animal Benevolent League www.ewhiskers.com

Chris, you were a good friend in the Navy. And also in concurrent musical activities to a degree, some cool stories. We will always have that brotherhood as Senior Chiefs and active duty together, mingled with a mutual love of music and gear, even after you retired. May the Good Lord watch over your sweet widow, Heather, praying. I remember the four of us at the Khaki Ball when I first made Chief, including my first wife, also passed on. That was a great night. Blessings and comforts upon all your kin in the Good Lord's grace. You left us far too soon, dear Friend. We're very sad, but will what we can to carry forth your memory.

I remember when Chris invited me over to check out some of the guitars he had for sale. He also wanted me to bring a few of mine to show him. When I walked in, it looked like a guitar warehouse, with cases stacked everywhere. We had some good laughs, and I ended up buying a few guitars from him that I still have to this day. Over the years, I picked up a few more from him. He was always a solid guy whenever I ran into him. Rest in peace.

Customer of Chris for almost 20 years. Great guy to correspond with and all the deals were very fair for good guitars. He had a passion for music and the whole performing game and his narratives on his site were well done and showed his dedication to serving musicians, pro and amateur. So sorry he did not make it after closing his super business. Keep rocking Chris, we hear you.

I´m so saddened to read about Chris passing, my sincere condolences to Chris´s family.

I was fortunate enough to be a local customer and I had the pleasure of meeting and working a few deals with Chris over the years. He was always a honest standup guy. He´ll be missed. I also always enjoyed his "barebones" iconic website, it was kind of a throwback to days gone-bye...
RIP Chris

I was saddened to learn of Chris's passing. I was merely a customer, but was lucky enough to be local and got to spend time with Chris when trying out guitars. I played one of my favorite acquisitions, a 1994 Epiphone Sheraton II, just this morning. He was gentleman and a more than fair businessman. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his family.
