Christopher M. McCloud Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2007.
Christopher M. McCloud and his soon-to-be wife Sheena met at a church function when he was 15 and she was 12. She said that she was drawn to him because of his eyes and his pranks. "Chris would do anything to make people laugh," she said. "He would throw a fake snake in front of someone in the woods just to see how high they would jump." McCloud, 24, of Malakoff, Texas, was killed Sept. 14 in Baghdad when an explosive detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to Fort Hood. Last year, he said he wanted to serve his country. "That is just the way he was," Sheena said. He wanted to set an example for his kids and wanted a better life for his family. He knew this would do that for us." McCloud graduated in 2001 and had been working since he was 16 at Red Dot Steel Buildings Co. According to his father, Michael, there wasn't anything he couldn't do. "He was a very fast learner on the job and worked hard every day," Michael said. He learned just about everything there was to know about putting up steel buildings." He also is survived by 3-year-old Aiden and 2-year-old Landon.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4
What a wonderful thought...

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To the McCloud Family -

We all look forward to the fulfillment of the scripture at Psalms 46:9 which reads: 9”He is making wars to cease to the extremity of the earth. The bow he breaks apart and does cut the spear in pieces; The wagons he burns in the fire.” May the family rely upon the greatest and only source of true comfort. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3,4

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Private McCloud. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

To the McCloud family: my wife and I are holding you up before the Lord. May He comfort you as only He can. When it seems as though the darkness of sadness and sorrow seem to envelope you, remember the words of Micah who said, "when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me." (Micah 7:8).

The Lord will never leave you or forsake you. You can always rely on his strength when it seems you can't take another step. There isn't a place He hasn't been and there isn't an emotion He hasn't felt. That's the beauty of the Lord. He knows just where you are and where you are headed. Allow Him to lead and guide you always.

I am saddened from my deepest heart by the loss of Michael, such a fine example of an American Soldier. He has shown true courage and integrity for his family and his county. His sacrifice for every American is a true testimony of his character. To his family the pain of loss with be with you forever, but be at ease Michael now sits at the right hand of God. His unselfish service to God, American and the Iraqi People is a thing of true Honor. I will do my best to Honor him on my Sunday radio broadcast. My heart and prayers are with you all.

HOME FOR A MOMENT

My mind wonders to a far off place,
Visions of home and a familiar taste.
My heart is at peace, my body at rest,
No cares, no pain, just gods
loving caress.
All around me is bright and clean,
Only in heaven could be found this scene.
No place else could i ever wish to be,
Golden fields, streams,
and mountains as far
as the eyes can see.
I leave this place, To return i must be patient,
Awaken from my rest,
I pick up my weapon and
return to my station.
A soldiers life is not for all,
Only the ones who answer the call.

Our country is lucky to have brave men like Christopher who I don't personally know, but who I respect for what he did to protect me.

May God bless you family members in the months and years to come.

In Memory
of
PFC Christopher Michael McCloud
January 19, 1983-September 14, 2007

Not so many days ago I quietly slipped away-
for with my home and family I could no longer stay.
My labor on Earth is over
my soul has been set free-
now with my Heavenly Father I will always be.
Your heart I know grieves for me, tears fall from your eyes-
to know I had to leave you and you question why.
Although I`m gone I`m still with you-
I`ll always be a part
of your life for eternity--
through memories you hold in your heart.

There are no words that I can express to show my gratitude for Chris's service to our country or my sorrow of his sacrifice. I have a son serving in Iraq. I pray daily for our troops and I pray now for your family that our loving God will wrap His arms around you and comfort you during this difficult time. You lost a son, a husband, a father, a brother, our nation lost a Mighty Warrior, a soldier, its a loss we as a nation share. Take peace in knowing that your soldier is in the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ our Mighty God, and you will see him again someday, but right now he truly is the lucky one.
May God Bless you and keep you and know that we ARE a grateful nation.

no words will bring back the man of God, soldier, father, husband, & son. I didnt know chris, but lived in athens for a good while and have family there. i know he must have been a wonderful man. everyone there is so loving and caring. i know this time is hard, but whats even harder is when all the people are gone and you are by yourself to pick up. we have lost family memebers and that is when it gets hard. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, and remember we should be jealous of him, he is with our LORD ALMIGHTY!!!! where we will one day be! God Bless Our Troops, and your family!

To the parents and family of Christopher, I want you to know that I share in the grief you are now feeling. So many times there are so many unanswered questions and those are the ones we take to God for Him to answer. I too am the mother of a fallen soldier. I would like to offer any emotional support you may need when you want to reach out. If you want to vent, cry, talk or share memories I will be here for you. May God give you the strength you will need in the coming days and weeks ahead and wrap His healing arms around you.
