COLONIE - Christopher G. Martinek, 70, husband of Mary Lou (Weinman) Martinek, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital. Born May 13, 1955, in Granville, New York, he was the son of the late Vincent and Patricia Martinek.
Chris attended Bishop Gibbons High School and received his Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He spent over 30 years working at the NYS Office of Information Technology Services where he retired a few years ago.
Chris was an avid bowler and spent most of his life giving back to the game of bowling. He taught his wife and children how to bowl, as well as coached many other kids, through junior programs at the Bowler's Club, Latham Bowl, and the Capital District Joey Schmidt Junior Pro-Scoring League, where he was also the Director for many years. He loved visiting Sunset Beach, N.C., watching military movies, and laughing at his four-legged grandchild, Oakley, chasing squirrels in the backyard.
Chris is survived by wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Marissa (Joseph Paone); son, Bryon, of Colonie, N.Y.; sister, Joanne Petro (Steve) of Plauston, N.H.; brother, Thomas (Patsy) of North Creek, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chris was predeceased by his brother, James.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y., 12205. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in Christ our Light, 1 Maria Drive. Interment will follow the mass at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Central Ave., Colonie, N.Y.
