Christopher Meredith Obituary

Christopher Todd Meredith was born in Limestone County to Clifford and Lindy Meredith on September 10, 1970.  He was the first of three children and their only son.

Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Woodie Anglin officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery.

Chris began his school life in Wortham, Texas, but his mother got him home to Groesbeck as quickly as she could.  He did his growing up in Old Union where he spent summers with his cousins fishing, seining, feeding cows and doing whatever else his Mammaw, Pappaw and Uncle Huck told him to do.  He graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1989, and eventually went on to graduate from TSTC before going to work as an account manager of sales for GrayBar.

Chris’s job took him many places.  He moved first to Dallas, then to Denver, Seattle and Albuquerque.   Chris enjoyed the travel and experiences, but his home was always in Texas with his family, and in 2013, his nephew began his senior football season at GHS, and Chris made sure his job found him a position back home because he was NOT missing a single game, and he didn’t.

Chris settled in Spring, TX where he met Becky Goodmote.  The two were married in 2019, and she was the love of his life.  His marriage to Becky gave him an extended family that was very dear to him.

Chris was a devoted Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorn and Groesbeck Goat fan, and he loved nothing more than sitting on a patio watching football and telling stories.  It is certain that some of his best memories happened in his sister and brother-in-law’s backyard playing music, (while singing loudly), arguing for fun, watching football, playing Trivial Pursuit and keeping everyone entertained with his stories.  He also loved playing darts and enjoying his time with his friends in Spring every chance he got.  He had a quick wit, the most mischievous grin ever and was the life of every gathering, so much so that he was lovingly nicknamed BJ, (Big Joker), by his classmates.

He was a devoted son, always taking care of his parents when they needed it and providing laughs every chance he got, no matter how serious a situation may have been.  He was the best big brother that two sisters could have ever dreamed of having.  He loved his sisters; he was so proud of everything they did; he loved their husbands and took so much joy in seeing his baby sisters live in happiness.  Never a day went by in their lives that they did not know they were loved by the greatest big brother in the world.

However, as much as he loved all of them, nothing in Chris’s life compared to the love he felt for his niece and nephew.  He truly, actively worked to be the best uncle he could be, and he was.  From the minute he became an uncle, his life’s mission was to make sure he was their favorite and that his niece and nephew would never want for anything.   Chris even decided he would be called “Bubba” because babies could say that word easier, and he wanted his name to be the first thing they said.  He spoiled his Zack and Dani beyond belief, first with toys, then with money but always with love.  There was nothing they could want that he would not provide.  He was so proud of everything they did, and the relationship he had with them will never be replaced.

Chris loved his family and friends. He loved his job.  He loved his Mama and Daddy.  He wanted everyone to laugh all the time.  The hole he has left will never be filled.

Chris is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifford and Dorothy Meredith and Gilbert and Maydelle Hughes; his Daddy Clifford Meredith; Uncles Huck Hughes, Rastus Hughes and Micky Green; Aunt and Uncle Harold and Polly Bumpers; “other dad” and great friend, Lee Morgan, and his two precious pugs, Guinness and Senator.

He is survived by his Mama, Linda Meredith; Becky Meredith, her children and grandchildren; sisters Kolby Morgan and husband Mika, Heather Rone and husband Scott; nephew Zack Morgan and wife Dawn; niece, Dani Morgan; special cousin and friend, Keven Hughes, “other” niece and nephew, Alyssa Anglin and Devin Kozak, a list of aunts, uncles cousins and friends that is just too lengthy to write, and lastly, his great-nephew Ryan Morgan, who has his sweet, mischievous grin.

Pall bearers are Devin Kozak, Barrett and Blaine Myers, Sterling Cable, Cody Favors, Justin Mullins and Chris Sharp.  Honorary pall bearers are Randall Crane, Robert Clemmons, Nathan Orrick, Monte McGilvray, Gabe Gibson, Mark Smith, Derek Pringle, Chris Henderson, Terry Kelley, Jason Cortez, Mark Meador, Richard Oliver, Matt Smith, Josh Payne, David Crawford, Corey Thompson and Seth Hart.  If we could name the rest that loved him, we would, but Chris would have told us to shut up a long time ago, that this has gone on long enough, and all of this energy needs to go into willing the Cowboys to another Super Bowl win or a Longhorn National Title.
