Christopher Allyn Missler (Chris), a devoted nurse, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2025 in Kissimmee Floria, at the young age of 56. A celebration of life will be held to honor him on November 8th, 2025, 11:00am at FloridaOne DMAT 326 Green Acres Rd Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547.
Born on December 1st, 1968, to William and Judith Missler in Oak Harbor, Washington, later settling in Maryland. Chris lived a life defined by service, compassion and dedication to others and his family. From a young age he felt a calling to care for people and help his community, a passion that led him to pursue a career in nursing. For decades, he served with kindness and excellence at many different hospitals, where he became known for sharing his knowledge of nursing, ability to teach others, and unwavering commitment to his patients and colleagues. He was the youngest EMT, starting at the age of 15, in Maryland leading him to volunteer for multiple counties while supporting his community through his completion of nursing school. His determination and service for others continued while he started his admirable journey into nursing. Throughout his remarkable career, Christopher Missler served in many capacities from 1990-2025.
Chris had many roles as a nurse including Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit, Critical Care RN, Emergency Room Nurse, triage, Charge Nurse and more. He worked at multiple hospitals at one time and did not show one less loyalty than the other. He chose to be a travel nurse at one point allowing his family to explore more of Florida with him. He was dedicated to all hospitals and was honored to be a part of saving lives all over. As his career in nursing grew so did his love for education. He was a trauma educator and Injury Prevention Coordinator playing a major part of how Fort Walton Beach Medical Center became a trauma center. Chris took pride in mentoring young nurses and colleagues. American Medical Education Training and Standy was founded by Chris and his wife to provide education to the medical community. One of the most exciting times my Dad talked about in his career was being a critical flight nurse and paramedic on a fixed wing air ambulance flying to several places in South America, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean Islands and almost every state in the US. In his most recent years, he committed himself to his patients and families in Hospice playing a crucial role in some of the toughest times a family will face. He had such compassion and focused on not only the patients but the family they would leave behind.
Over the years, Chris Missler contributed his time and expertise to many committees, Organizations and Memberships. He held a chair on the Community Health Injury and Prevention Committee and was a member of the TCAA Injury Prevention Committee. Chris spoke highly of Florida One DMAT and his many Volunteer Rescue Squads. He dedicated his time from the age of 15 to Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, Charles County Medic One, Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad, Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, and Calvert County as an EMT/IVT/Driver/Firefighter/Nuclear Plant Firefighter. He belonged to many memberships and maintained his involvement in most for many years to include Society of Trauma Nurses, Trauma Center Association of America, Emergency Nurses Association, National Association of Emergency medical Technicians, National Student Nursing Association Delegate of Maryland, and National Student Association as President of his local Chapter.
Chris was an experienced and goal-oriented medical professional with a track record of consistently meeting and exceeding established goals related to management, training and patient relations. Skilled in building long-term relationships with all levels of hospital staff and EMS personnel. Motivated and ambitious with excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Chris Missler's dedication to service defined a good portion of his life. His work with all these organizations and committees reflected his deep belief that nursing was not just a profession, but a calling to uplift and heal others. His legacy continues through the many lives he touched – colleagues, patients and friends alike.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chris Missler lived a life of service that extended beyond the hospital walls. He participated in a mission trip to Peru where he provided medical care to a community that could not afford it. He brought many smiles of relief to children and families across Lima, Peru. He was a lifelong blood donor through the American Red Cross, quietly saving countless lives with each donation. Any time he was able to provide for others and show those around him what even one good deed could do for someone else, he would not hesitate.
Above all else, Chris was devoted to his family. No matter how long his shifts were or how demanding his work became, his greatest joy was always found at home. He was always available for his family. Many in the family would call him before going to the doctor or if they wanted reassurance they were doing the right thing. He would pick up the phone no matter what time it was and provide the knowledge he could, which was always spot on. Whether it was family dinners, cheering a child on, or simply sharing laughter at a cookout, he made sure his loved ones knew how deeply they were valued.
Chris enjoyed many experiences with his family. Trips to different places including Bush Gardens, Stone Mountain, West Virginia, North Carolina, Disney World, Universal Halloween Horror Nights, Ponce De Lion, and more. He was a certified scuba diver along with two of his children. He dove in different locations with his children, some including sharks against his wife's knowledge and others involving caves with eels, which made for great stories after the fact. Chris found immense joy in the magic of Disney World, especially the fireworks. Even more than the fireworks, he thoroughly enjoyed collecting Disney pins. He has collected numerous pins and finished many collections over the years. The excitement on his face when getting a pin he had been searching for or when he finished a collection was pure bliss. Nothing outweighed the happiness in his eyes watching his wife, children and grandchildren enjoy the magic of Disney any chance he could. When he had time for sports, he made it clear he will always be a dedicated Redskins fan, despite them changing their name. Chris had a deep love for his animals and truly believed they were sent to provide an extra level of healing on a tough day. His animals could do no wrong and often got a cheeseburger on a late night after the fireworks.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, William and Judith, and his brother, Timothy. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 25 years, Theresa Missler; his daughters Virginia (Patrick) Rhodes, Shannon (her fiancé, Joseph Williams), and Whitney (her significant other, Jay Guiao); his grandchildren Brayden, Carson, Hunter, Adelaide, Maijor and BrooklynSkye,; his brother Andrew (Jyl) Missler; his nephews Jared and Aden, as well as many family and friends that were dear to him. Chris's heart of serving others will live on through those he has left behind. He will always be remembered as kind, patient, compassionate, dedicated, and someone who never hesitated to put others before himself. His legacy of service and kindness will live on through the lives he touched, the patients he healed, and the example he set for those who follow in his footsteps.
