Christopher Munley

Christopher Munley, 70, died peacefully on April 22, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family.
Chris Munley was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and spent most of his life in Raritan and Somerville, New Jersey, where his presence left an indelible mark on the community he loved and served.
A master woodworker, craftsman, and artist-Chris brought creativity and intention to everything he built. His work was a reflection of his spirit: adventurous, imaginative, and done the right way, always with others in mind. As Scout Master of Troop 84 for over 14 years, Chris led with heart, patience, and a passion for the outdoors. He created one of the most respected Boy Scout programs in the nation-impacting not just the troop, but Somerville as a whole. Leading, planning, scouting, and executing adventures became his full-time mission. Whether it was hiking, biking, paddling, or simply finding the best swimming hole, Chris was always in motion-often via a shortcut, he had discovered himself. Chris was many things: an early environmentalist who fought for the health of local greenways, an avid gardener, a music lover with a deep appreciation for independent voices, and a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
He lived with purpose, choosing community, passion, and integrity over convention or financial gain. His hobbies and his work were one and the same-acts of service to the people and places around him. He had a quiet way of making things better. His love language was action: showing up, giving his time, fixing what needed fixing, and building what didn't yet exist. He lived by his own schedule, thought freely, and inspired others by the sheer energy and sincerity he brought to life.
Chris is survived by those who were lucky enough to know him and feel his influence including his loving wife Irene Munley, his daughter Katie Munley, his son Eric Munley and daughter in law Kiki Sarko, his sister Ellen Wiles and brother in law Jim Wiles, his brother Joe Munley and sister in law Melissa Homann. He will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind man-humble, driven, full of life, and always in pursuit of something meaningful.
Memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00PM on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. A memorial service will be held at 5:00PM at the funeral home.
