Christopher Shane Nelms, known as Chris to his friends and family, passed from this life on May 29, 2024, in Andrews, TX. Born on May 3, 1972, in Victoria, TX, Chris's life was a journey of love, laughter, and the open road. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, and a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Chris married the love of his life, Jen Nelms, on January 27, 1995, in Sterling City, TX. Together, they built a life filled with joy and raised three wonderful sons: Edward Nelms of San Angelo, John Nelms of Concordia, KS. and CJ Nelms of Andrews. Chris was a family man through and through, and his love for his wife and sons knew no bounds.
He is survived by his dedicated wife, Jen; his sons, Edward, John, and CJ; his brother JW Smith and his wife April of Grapecreek; and his playful Terrier, Mocha. Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Zelma Webb; his stepfather, Keith Smith; his grandparents, Glenn and Margerie Webb; his grandmother, Wanda Webb; and his mother-in-law, Kathy Dean. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart, and their influence on his life was immeasurable.
For many years, Chris worked as a truck driver in the oilfield, a career that was more than just a job-it was his passion. Even when he wasn't on the road, Chris could be found at home playing truck driving simulations, always seeking out the next best virtual route. His love for truck driving was a testament to his adventurous spirit and his appreciation for the freedom of the open road.
Chris's interests were as vast as the skies he often traversed. He was an avid weather watcher, with a particular fascination for the power and majesty of storms. His eyes would light up at the sight of darkening clouds and the sound of distant thunder, a reflection of his respect for nature's grandeur. Music was another integral part of Chris's life. He enjoyed listening to tunes from various genres and played the guitar with a natural ease.
Described by those who knew him as a free spirit, Chris lived his life with a sense of wonder and an unquenchable curiosity. He approached every day with a sense of possibility and encouraged others to do the same. His infectious enthusiasm and unwavering optimism will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to encounter his presence.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00AM, Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leslie Boone officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM-8:00PM Monday, June 3, 2024, at McNett Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.
