Christopher Reese Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce Officer Chris Reese was tragically killed in the line of duty as a Virginia Beach Police Officer on February 22, 2025. Christopher Michael Louis Reese, age 30, lost his life doing what he loved-serving his community.
Chris was born November 1, 1994 in Lady of Our Lourdes Hospital Camden, New Jersey, to George Reese and Trisha Hogle. He grew up with multiple siblings and cared deeply for his family. Chris was heavily involved in all things baseball from childhood through high school. Never able to do just one thing, he was also in track, golf, and JROTC. He was such a sweet kid, always making others laugh and befriending everyone he met. His mom remembers him as the goofiest kid, yet somehow wise beyond his years with off-the-wall comments that have stuck with everyone in his life. Self proclaimed "mommy's boy" and proud to be a Jersey boy, he was serious when he needed to be, but everyone knew he never took anything in life too seriously.
Chris graduated from Sterling High School and went on to Virginia Wesleyan University where he studied accounting. The pace and nature of accounting never really held his interest or passion, and in 2019 he joined the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office where he spent his time with B Team operations. He excelled in his role, creating lasting friendships and a deepening passion for law enforcement. Chris was known to his fellow deputies as a hard worker with a goofy personality and a dark sense of humor. He fervently pursued opportunities for extra training, including VBSO's ERT (Emergency Response Team).
In 2020, Chris met the love of his life Moriah through friends at work. They began an incredible relationship where his fierce loyalty and caring really shined through. Bringing out the best in each other, Chris and Moriah complemented each other seamlessly. They adopted their German Shepherd, Stormy, who turned long walks on the beach into frenzied sprints with lots of digging. They enjoyed traveling together, often in search of rare and unique bourbon for their collection and consumption. Their friendships are marked with loyalty and intentionality, with their friends regarding them as nothing short of family. Chris and Moriah were married in a small private ceremony on October 12, 2023 and celebrated with family and friends on October 12, 2024.
The level of Chris's passion for law enforcement was rivaled only by his disdain for the politics of law enforcement. Chris always wanted to be involved in a manner where he could make the best impact. This led to a decision in 2022, where Chris moved from Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office to Virginia Beach Police Department as he wanted a more active involvement in law enforcement. He was passionate about serving members of his community and fiercely dedicated to having the backs of his fellow officers. He always did his job to the best of his abilities and was dedicated to maintaining peak physical fitness to do so by regularly spending time working out despite his hatred for cardio. He started his time with VBPD in the 2nd Precinct and was later transferred to the 4th Precinct where he went through Designated Marksman training and recently applied to join the Crime Suppression Squad. While Chris took his job seriously, he was loved by his coworkers and known for his sense of humor; always making his shifts more than merely work for those he worked with.
While not at work, he enjoyed working on his Jeep and later his truck, raucously playing video games with his friends, walking his dog or playing with her in the park, working out, and spending time with his wife and friends. Chris was always willing to help any of his friends at a moment's notice and was known to be incredibly dependable. Known to his family and friends as their rock, Chris was always willing to be a shoulder to cry on or an ear to vent to. Despite his physical distance from family in Jersey, Chris always made a point to keep his mom involved in his life with constant phone calls.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Moriah; his parents, George (Jennifer) Reese IV and Trisha (Tommy) Hogle; siblings, George Reese V, Tiffany Jolade, Maddie Hogle, Dylan Reese, and Paige Reese; many loving family members; and many fervent friends that consider him family.
His vibrant, young life was cut short far too soon and his senseless death has left a huge hole in the lives of those who knew him. His fellow officers at the Virginia Beach Police Department have suffered a huge loss in this tragic event that took the lives of both Officer Chris Reese and Officer Cam Girvin.
Services will be Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Rock Church, 640 Kempsville Road in Virginia Beach with the family receiving visitors on Friday, February, 28, 2025 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home - Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach.
