I'm a dutch citizen living in the Netherlands. Just a few minutes ago I saw in a flash the name of Christopher Wouters being a police station in Warren ? I knew instantly that this name must originate from the Netherlands so I "googled" that name and found your web site....
Reading about Chris Wouters life and heroic death, I can only say that I am proud he being from Dutch ancestry.
Best rgds, dick r. De Jong.

I can’t believe it’s been so many years since you’re gone yet the memory of that amazing smile is as it were yesterday. Every year on this day the reminder pops up and the sadness takes over me again too. Oh how many people have lost out on the chance to meet you, feel your genuine caring ways and experience the laughs they’d been having with you. The granddaughter is in her 2nd year of teaching Science AT HER FORMER MIDDLE SCHOOL !! I know you’d get a kick out of hearing that fact !! You were always so kind to the young ones you’d come acrossand truly interested in what they wanted to be in the future. You’re not forgotten Chris, and never could be, you’re our guardian Angel in blue. My prayers and condolences to your family, as always. Thank you for great memories.

I can't believe it's been 18 years , you cross my mind very often Chris. Your laughter, smiling face and genuine concern for others is what I remember the most. When you and Kevin Sommers would come into the restaurant where I worked in Warren you always brightened our day. Asking me about the granddaughter and family ( by the way, she's student teaching this year to 1st graders, having graduated from Michigan State University. You would have loved this !! And knowing you, you would be congratulating me !! The world misses you so Chris, but we know heaven has gained an angel in blue. My prayers to you and your family. Rest well dear man. God Bless

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same. (Flavia Weedn)
Chris and I went to grade school and high school together. I remember
his kindness, compassion, confidence and respect for everyone he met, even at a young age.
Obviously, these traits made him a great man, a loving husband/father/son/brother and an extraordinary police officer.
Although our lives took us in different directions after graduation, Ive always been very proud to have known Chris.
I just want his family to know that on the 18th anniversary of his death, he is not forgotten.
Thank you for your service Chris Wouters.

I saw your picture in the hallway at the Macomb Police Academy last week Chris and I could not stop my eyes from welling with tears. I have the same picture on my desk still, but it is much smaller and it is starting to fade a bit. My memories of you,
however, will never fade. I can not believe it has been eleven years. When I think of you, I still can’t help but smile, but there will always be tears as well.

I knew Chris very well in high school. I remember him as being such a wonderful person. Yes he is a hero and I am proud to have known him, but he was also truly a great human being even when he was a teenager.

Today, while in a completely unrelated discussion, I was reminded of Oct 11th 2000. At the time I was a contractor to the Warren Police. That evening I was in the Police department doing work when the tragedy occured. I never met Sergeant Wouters yet he has affected my life in an immeasurable way. I have a sensitivity to the trials and risks of a police officer that could not have gained otherwise. I witnessed bonds grow stronger among fellow Warren Police officers which taught me how people can grow from a shared crisis. I think in every person's life there are but a handful of events or moments that make us who we are; Oct 11th 2000 was one of my moments.
With my gratitude towards him, I would like to express to the Wouters family my deepest sympathies. May these short words be yet another reminder of how many people Sergeant Wouters affected.

Dear Evan,
I, too, frequently come to this page and each time I do, I am filled with a great sorrow that is accompanied by the deepest gratitude that I was lucky enough to have known your dad and to have called him my friend. Until now, I have not been able to sign this guest book, but reading your note has encouraged me to do so.
I met your dad when he came to work at the Macomb Auto Theft Squad, and we became good friends. I admired and respected him for the kind of father and husband that he was...he talked about you all the time...he was so very proud of you, your sisters and Val.
He sure was quite a character sometimes, wasn't he? He always thought his jokes were funny, even when they weren't...and he ALWAYS thought he was right. No matter what the debate, and even if he didn't come out ahead, he always THOUGHT he did. He was always quick to dish out the advice too, even when you didn't ask for it.
But, Evan, when I describe to other people the kind of person he was, the words "honest, hard-working, integrity, respectful, proud of his family, great father and husband, and good friend" are the words that come to mind the most.
I miss him terribly and think of him every day. And even though you probably won't remember me, I want you to know that I think of you, Val and the girls all the time. We were all very lucky to have had the time with your dad that we did, but I'm sure he'd be the first to say that he was even luckier to have you.

I want to express my sympathy to the wife and daughters of Officer Wouters. I too am raising children by myself after the death of my husband. Eventually, pictures and personal memories will make you smile and reflect back with fondness. The pain never completely goes away, but it does become easier to bear. Be greatful for the wonderful years you had with this courageous gentlemen and keep his memory alive for your daughters. All of your family will be in my prayers.

What can I say. It is so hard to lose one that you love. Our only comfort is that we have the hope that we will see our dead loved ones again and be able to live on a earth where the promise of Revelation 21:4 will be a reality. I can't wait to see all those resurected and to meet Chris. May all your bible studies help you to cope with you lose. Without the comfort that God and the Bible gives none of us could survive a lose like this. Val, we have known each other for years and I and my family are truly sorry for the lose that you have suffered. Please remember to pray for the strength needed to stay stong. You will be blessed for all the effort that you put forth. You are in our prayers.

What a special gift our friends have given to us. There is a great meaning of life in a tree. Dear Evan,
My prayer for you through this
whole ordeal has been that you will
come to know the peace that only
comes through forgiveness. God is
the only source of that peace, and
it will come when you are able to
forgive all those involved in the
loss of your father. It will not
be easy to work through your anger,
anger at God, and anger at those
involved in this senseless murder.
But God promises us his peace again

time. If there is ever anything I
can do to help you, just ask.

Dear Carole, Larry, Darrin and all
of Caroles immediate family members,
I am very proud of the Wouters
family. I met Carole at Western
Michigan University and we roomed
together for a year. She still
teases me about how we met.... In
computer class I sought her out the
first day of class to be my
computer lab partner. I knew she
was going to be a great friend, not
only a smart student to sit next
to. Of course, she thought I was a
nerd -little did she know. Over
the years I had the opportunity of
meeting her entire family,
including Chris. Of course it took
that long to meet them all. I
think they are all fabulous!!! I
wish this did not have to happen to
Chris. I am most sympathetic to
his family he left behind (wife and
3 kids). I truely believe in
angels and think that Chris was
chosen to be an angel to watch over
the entire family. You would need
someone that special and strong to
watch over the Wouters (because
there are so many of them)!!! He
was chosen.
Carole, I want to let you know I am
praying for you to get through this
and even though I am far away, I am
always next to you ready to give
you as many hugs as you need. I
love you all!!!
Sincerely,
Julie Jensen (Rick & Sophie too)

would like Evan and his mother and their family to know that my thoughts and prayers are with them as well. Although Chris may not be with us now, all that he stood for and all that his life attributed to this world of ours will live on and
not be forgotten, at least by me. All of you are in my prayers.
Love,
Rosanne Crowley Koss

Dear Aunt Jan and Uncle Hank,
When I heard the news of Chris's
death,I was shocked and deeply
saddened. Since I live so far away,I
never got the chance to know Chris
personally. So many people love him
deeply and I know he will be missed
a great deal. My thoughts and
prayers are with you,his wife,and
their 3 children.
With Love,

As an employee of the 37th District
Court I have had the great
privilege of working with Chris for
the past 11 years. He was a
wonderful & caring police officer,
always treating others with
kindness and respect. What I will
always remember most about him was
the love and devotion he had for
his wife and three children. That
was what Chris always wanted to
chat about. He will be greatly
missed by all who knew him.

I had the wonderful pleasure of
knowing Chris, if only briefly,
while playing baseball (JV) during
my freshman year at Wayne State
(1980). Being the brother of a
Wayne County Sheriff sergeant, and
the brother-in-law of a Dearborn
police officer, I know first-hand
the uncertaintly that each day
brings to the families of law
enforcement officers. I only wish
that I knew that Chris was a police
officer in Warren at a much earlier
time, as my job takes me to the
Warren police station a couple times
a month. My family and I send our
deepest condolences to the entire
Wouters family and his extended
family at the Warren PD.
