In Loving Memory of Christy Lynne Washington (Gentry)

March 12, 1961 – November 4, 2025

Hampton, VA

With broken hearts and boundless love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend-Christy Lynne Washington (Gentry)-who left this world peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 64.

Born on March 12, 1961, in Niagara Falls, New York, to Gerald J. Washington and Carole D. (Long) Washington, Christy was a quiet force of grace and strength. She touched every life she encountered with her warmth, wisdom, and deeply intuitive spirit. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she poured herself into them fully-with fierce love, unwavering devotion, and a heart big enough to hold the world.

She is survived by her daughters, Brittany N. Gentry and Alexandra D. Gentry, who were the center of her universe and her proudest accomplishments. She is also survived by her loving mother, Carole D. Washington, and her sisters, Monica C. Washington, Jennifer S. Washington, and Laurel A. Washington-Bierley-each of whom she loved, protected and supported with immeasurable care.

Christy was the proud aunt of Jared, Cody, Cierra, and Tyler (Jennifer); Patrick, Jessica, and Dylan (Monica); and Chloe (Laurel). Her love for them was limitless, and she cherished each of them like her own. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom she held close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald J. Washington; her beloved brother, David G. Washington; her grandparents, Toy and Gladys (Clark) Washington and Florence (Long) Jackson; her great-aunt, Ruby Maxwell; and her loyal companions, Sasha and Princess, who brought her comfort and joy through many seasons of life.

Christy lived a full and multifaceted life. She was a fashion model, a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines (TWA), and later a devoted scheduling supervisor for Hope in Home Care, where her compassion and professionalism touched countless lives. Her work ethic was tireless, and her care for others never wavered.

Outside of work, Christy found joy in life's simplest and most beautiful things: reading, gardening, traveling, the beach, walking, and dancing. She loved shopping trips and Sunday phone calls, decorating her home with the change of seasons, and caring for her skin and nails with quiet elegance. She loved watching Christmas movies and cheering on the Buffalo Bills. She could tell a story like no one else and made every holiday feel like magic. But more than anything, she loved being a mom. That was her heart.

To know Christy was to feel seen. She always knew exactly what to say to lift your spirit and soothe your pain. She was kind, honest, caring, and deeply empathetic-soft-spoken but strong, and full of quiet brilliance. She protected her people fiercely, loved without conditions, and gave without ever asking for anything in return. Her love is her legacy. Her strength is her gift.

Our lives are forever changed by her absence, but her presence lives on in the stories we tell, the values we carry, and the memories we hold close. She will always be with us-in every flower that blooms, every gentle breeze, every act of care and tenderness we offer to the world.

We love you, Mommy. Always and forever.

-Alley and B.

A celebration of life will be held in Christy's honor at a later date. Details will be shared by the family when available.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Christy's memory to Best Friend's Animal Society - a no-kill animal organization that reflects her deep love for animals.
