Chuck Wright, 86, of Wasco, California, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2023. He was the loving husband of Janice Wright (Bray), and together they shared over 57 years of marriage.
Born October 11, 1936 in Bakersfield, California, he was the son of the late Lewis Zelgar and Gladys May Wright.
Chuck attended elementary school in Shafter, and graduated high school in McFarland, where he excelled in football. He also attended Fresno State and Bakersfield College. He was married to Linda Kirkpatrick for a few years and the marriage was blessed with daughter Karen.
In his younger years, he had a number of jobs including potato shed manager and correctional officer at San Luis Obispo. He returned to McFarland where he and his father bought a small grocery store. In 1963, he bought a drive-in in Wasco that he later renamed Chuck Burger. This was the popular spot for all ages and his "Big C' burger was incomparable. It was here that he met the love of his life, Jan, when she came in and applied for a job. (She was hired.) Together they had two children, Kristy and Chad.
In 1978, Chuck sold the drive in and began selling cars at Richland Chevrolet in Shafter. Chuck had the gift of gab and was well known for his friendliness and honesty. He had numerous repeat buyers and took pride in his knowledge of everything Chevrolet. He retired in 2009 and he and Jan enjoyed many travels with their favorite place being New York City. Chuck loved the Dodgers and some of his favorite times were attending Dodger games with family and watching the games at home. In addition to his wife Jan, he is survived by his son Chad Wright and wife Lisa from Wasco, California; daughters Kristy Burns and husband Phil, and Karen Cathey all of Bakersfield, California. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jim Wright in 2012.
