Cicely Monica Smith (née Mordecai), age 93, transitioned peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Coral Springs, Florida.

Cicely was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, to Jabez and Doris Mordecai (nee Douce) on December 20, 1931.

She attended St. George's Girls' School and later graduated with her teacher's degree from Shortwood Teacher's College. On August 3, 1957, she married Lloyd G. Smith in St. Andrew, Jamaica and had four children.

She began her career as a teacher at Vauxhall Secondary School for many years, and at St. Hugh's High School in Kingston and St Andrew, Jamaica before migrating to Montclair, New Jersey, USA in the 1980s.

Cicely was actively involved in the Girl Guides Association; generously served at St. Mark's Methodist Churches in both Jamaica and the USA, New Beginnings Church in Kennesaw, Georgia, and Plantation United Methodist Church in Plantation, Florida. Cicely held numerous leadership roles and received many accolades, including serving as Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association for Kingston and St. Andrew, representing Jamaica throughout Europe and the Caribbean Islands from the 1950s through the 1980s. Cicely had a very special way and the ability to create love and kindness to all she encountered, leaving a lasting and positive impression on everyone. Her unwavering compassion to always show love and kindness towards others will continue to inspire all who knew her!

Beyond Cicely's teaching career, she was very faithful in serving the Lord, extremely talented in art, baking cakes including the best wedding cakes for special occasions. In addition, she enjoyed and was very accomplished in sewing, scribing proclamations in Calligraphy and Old English techniques; and beveling beautiful pictures on leather, just to name a few of her artistic talents!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd G. Smith; daughter, Stephanie Ealey-Smith; parents, Jabez and Doris Mordecai; and brothers Kenneth, Dennis, Charles, Bentley Mordecai and sister, Elsa.

She is survived by her children: Karen Roper, Bridget Newman, and Peter Smith; grandchildren: Todd Smith, Kaela Ealey-Smith, and Allison Newman; siblings: Lloyd Mordecai, Sheila Burke, Angella Meade, and Rose Marie Mesquitta; and many other beloved relatives and friends.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Mediterranean Comfort ALF, hospice, many relatives and friends who cared, prayed and visited Cicely.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that financial donations be made payable to the St Mark's Methodist Building Fund and be sent to: St. Mark's Methodist Church, 1 Balkan Avenue, Harbour View, Kingston 17, Jamaica, Attn: Rev Doctor Philip Robinson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. EDT (Florida time) / 9:00 a.m. EST (Jamaica time) at Plantation United Methodist Church, 1001 NW 70th Avenue, Plantation, FL, 33313 with Pastor Marta Burke officiating. A repast will follow at Tree Tops Park, Oakridge Hall, 3900 SW 100th Avenue, Davie, FL 33328.
