Cira Othon Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Memorial Home & Heartland Cremation Services - Plainfield from Jan. 15 to Jan. 16, 2026.
With deep love and gratitude, we remember our beloved mother, Cira Othon, who passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 22, 1931, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, to Salvadore and Cira Gómez, she lived a long and meaningful life filled with faith, love, and devotion to her family.
Cira was a devoted wife, sharing 64 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, George M. Othon, whom she married on July 4, 1959. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, family, and enduring love, creating a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering support.
She was a nurturing and steadfast mother to five children - George Othon, Patricia (Rocco) Colella, Leticia Othon, Edward Othon, and Gabriel Othon - a proud grandmother to nine, and a cherished great-grandmother to nine. She was also a caring sister and a loving aunt to her neices and nephews, whose kindness and guidance extended far beyond her immediate family.
Cira was preceded in death by her parents, Salvadore and Cira Gómez, her husband George M. Othon, her brother Fernando Gómez, her sister Yolanda Navarro, and her infant son Ernesto Othon. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings, Griselda Gómez and Salvador Gómez, as well as by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory and values forward.
A woman of deep faith, Cira's spiritual life was the foundation of her every action. She had a playful spirit and a sharp, inquisitive mind, delighting in both learning and laughter. For 25 years, she worked as a librarian at St. Joseph's School, inspiring generations of students with her love of books, gentle guidance, and dedication to education.
Cira found joy in the simple pleasures of life - tending to her plants, reading, playing tennis, traveling, walking, caring for animals, and playing the piano. Dogs and birds were her favorite companions, and she delighted in the joy they brought to her home. She loved games of chess and Rummikub, cherishing both the challenge of the game and the moments spent connecting with family and friends.
She will be remembered not only for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love, but also for her delightful quirks and endearing personality. Her sense of humor, trusted home remedies, endless wisdom, playful spirit, sharp mind, and her beloved mix of English and Spanish words - which often made her children laugh - will be deeply missed.
Cira's life was one of devotion, joy, and inspiration. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured, guided, and loved, and in the countless lives she touched through her faith, kindness, and generosity of spirit. She leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.
Memorial mass will be held on Thursday February 5th, 2026, at St. Joseph Church 330 E. Fullerton, Addison Illinois 60101 at 9:30am.
