Clair was born on July 18, 1952 and was the son of the late Bernard S. and Margaret M. (Weaver) Groft. He attended Delone Catholic High School and later went to work for Sylvania Shoe Company, and then retired after 43 years from Hanover Wire Cloth. Clair enjoyed spending his time fishing, being outdoors, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and going to family gatherings. He was a lifetime member of the McSherrystown Home Association, the McSherrystown Knight's of Columbus, and the McSherrystown Fish and Game Club, and he was also the Annunciation youth basketball coach for many years.
Clair is survived by his son Nicholas Groft; his grandchildren Keegan and Kohan; his siblings Rose Smith, Susan Wierman, Patricia Lawrence and husband Mike, and Thomas Groft and wife Joyce. He was preceded in death by his brother Bernnard Groft.
A memorial service in celebration of Clair's life will be held on Friday March 20, 2026 at 12:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. with Fr. Richard Lyons officiating. A gathering will be held on Friday from 11:00-12:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clair's memory can be made to Pappus House, 66 Big Mount Rd. Thomasville PA 17364.
