Claire Hanley passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Born in Bergen County, New Jersey, in 1931, Claire was the daughter of the late Stephan K. and Anna T. Einreinhofer.
She attended Fairleigh Dickenson University (New Jersey campus), then was employed by the Curtis-Wright Corporation before moving to Albany, New York, in 1962. In Albany, Claire worked part time at the Machine Shorthand Institute and the League of Women Voters. In 1984, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Saint Rose.
Always active in the church, Claire attended and enjoyed fellowship at Bethany Reformed Church in Albany, serving in various leadership positions, over the past 50+ years.
She also volunteered at the First Church in Albany Food Pantry, Capital Repertory Theatre and Palace Theatre in Albany, Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs.
Claire loved outdoor activities and especially enjoyed spending time at the family’s summer camp on Brant Lake in the Adirondacks. An avid reader, her other favorite pastimes included skiing, gardening, quilting, and attending Albany Symphony concerts and the New York City Ballet’s summertime performances at SPAC.
A lifelong baseball fan, Claire was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan until they “up and left” New York. It wasn’t until Derek Jeter came onto the scene that she switched leagues and became a Yankees fan.
Claire is survived by her sons, William H. Hanley (Jennifer Grazel), Thomas J. Hanley (Jennifer), Christopher J. Hanley (Stacey), and her brothers, Thomas Einreinhofer (Ida) and Roy Einreinhofer. She was predeceased by her former husband, Allen J. Hanley, and JoAnn Einreinhofer, Roy’s spouse.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 2pm, at Bethany Reformed Church, 760 New Scotland Avenue, in Albany. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to Bethany Reformed Church.
