Claire Melix Obituary
Claire L (Parker) Melix passed away peacefully on September 17th, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 93. Claire was born on July 16, 1932, to Robert and Jean Parker. Claire is a Mayflower descendant and native of Marstons Mills. She spent much of her childhood on the Gifford farm growing up with loving relatives where she spent her days learning many life skills.
Her kind, compassionate nature led her from an early age to pursue a career in nursing both professionally and to her beloved village, to which she practiced for over 60 plus years. Claire went to Cape Cod Nursing School and obtained her LPN license. She worked at the Cape Cod Hospital in the Maternity Ward and Surgical Aling 2. Later in her nursing career she was Camp Nurse at Camp Lyndon, House of Corrections Nurse, Nursing Home Nurse, and was a Head Nurse in numerous private duty cases.
Claire met her soul mate Donald L. Melix of Sandwich. They were married on September 7, 1952, and enjoyed a harmonious and exemplary marriage for 60 fulfilling years. They raised six children, 5 daughters and 1 son, and embraced many others as extended members of their family.
Claire embodied the spirit of generosity with an abundance of giving back with her many gifts and talents. She was leader of a boys' 4H Conservation Club, a Girl's basketball and softball coach, an active member in the Go Getters PTA Club, Trustee of the Marstons Mills Library, a proud board member of the Marstons Mills Historical Society, and an enthusiastic Sunday school teacher at the Osterville Methodist church. Claire was a proud 1950s graduate of Barnstable High School, and enjoyed working with the reunion planning committee for an impressive 70+ years.
Claire was predeceased by her Husband Donald Melix, Herring Pond Wampanoag.
Claire is survived by her siblings; Robert Parker, Sandra Rogge, and Linda (Fran) Fermino. Claire is also survived by her children; Gail Melix, David Melix, Bonnie Melix Cockerham, Susan Bobbitt, Linda (Brian) Besserer, Nancy (Michael) Barrows and her 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many loved ones.
Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills. A Funeral service will be held at Osterville United Methodist Church, at 57 Pond Street, Osterville on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 11:00 am. A committal service will be held at Marstons Mills cemetery. All are welcomed back to the church for a celebration of life in the fellowship hall.
