Claire Moscrip Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Chapel - Anacortes on Dec. 5, 2025.
Claire Moscrip, 101, of Anacortes, WA, passed away peacefully at Whatcom Hospice House on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Born on February 27, 1924, in Kennydale, Washington, Claire was the beloved daughter of Frank and Antoinette (Novaskowski) Stewart. Throughout her long and remarkable life, she was known by many names-Claire, Mickey, Mom, Grammie, Great Great, Aunt, Auntie, and cousin-each reflecting the deep and varied relationships she nurtured with family and friends.

Claire was cherished by everyone she encountered. Her spirit of joy, compassion, and resilience touched countless lives. Even in the most difficult times, she never gave up, embodying grace and dignity. She had an insatiable zest for life, always seeking adventure, embracing new experiences, and sharing her wisdom with others. A brilliant woman, Claire spoke five languages and was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa and Mensa.

She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a minor in languages, later earning a Master's degree in Languages from the University of San Diego. Claire dedicated much of her career to teaching junior high and high school foreign language classes, as well as serving as a high school counselor. Beyond education, she was also a successful businesswoman, co-owning and operating a toy store specializing in children's educational toys, particularly handcrafted wooden ones.

After retiring early, Claire devoted herself to her passions: golf, traveling the world, and cultivating friendships across cultures. She was beautiful, kind, confident, nurturing, compassionate, generous, and hopeful. Her love for her family was boundless, and her legacy continues through the memories and values she instilled in those closest to her. She taught her loved ones to find joy in the smallest things, to face challenges with quiet strength, and to always carry a smile.

Claire's life was a testament to the gifts she cherished most: faith in God, devotion to family and friends, a love of travel and learning, and an appreciation for the outdoors and everyday living. She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and joy that will forever live in the hearts of her family, students, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
