Clar Adele Coy

Clar Adele Coy, age 84, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away on January 9, 2026. She was born on April 11, 1941, in Kokomo, Indiana.

Clar’s early years were marked by both challenge and blessing. After losing her mother at age six, she and her sisters Sharon and Barbara were lovingly raised by their grandmother and great aunts. The three sisters began singing together at a young age, a joy that would continue throughout their lives. When their father remarried, Betty J. (Stephens) Cowgill became a cherished stepmother, and the family later welcomed a fourth daughter, Betty Darlene.

Clar married Lee in 1960, and together they built a busy family life. They welcomed four children—Jana, Dean, Kimberly, and Keith—but experienced the deep loss of Jana and Keith in infancy. During her sister Sharon’s long illness, Clar welcomed her niece, Tawahna, into the family, and in 1981, Clar and Lee formalized that bond through adoption. With the addition of Tawahna, they became a family of five, shaped by love, commitment, and enduring care.

Clar became deeply involved in the life of Christ Lutheran Church in Noblesville, where she remained active throughout her life. She participated fully in church and community life through worship, music, fellowship, and service—singing in choirs, coordinating weddings, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and serving in other supportive roles. It was within this church community that her long standing passion for early childhood education took shape. Clar played a central role in starting the church’s preschool program in 1980, helping it grow from a small beginning into a well established program. Children and early education remained a central focus of Clar’s life, spending more than 26 years working with young children and their education. Outside of church and work, Clar enjoyed performing in community musicals, making jewelry, antiquing, and bargain hunting with her sister and friends.

Clar is survived by her husband, Lory Lee Coy; her children, Dean Coy, Kimberly Coy, and Tawahna Voils (husband John Voils); her sister, Barbara Porter (husband Otis Porter); and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jana Lee Coy (1963); her son, Keith Collin Coy (1968); her mother, Bernice Cowgill (1948); her father, Orla Charles “Jerry” Cowgill (1978); her stepmother, Betty Cowgill (2024); and her sisters, Sharon Fleissner (1979) and Betty Foshee (2008).
