Obituary

Clara Marie Lemons- Coats was born on December 17, 1938, in Talladega County to the late Lucille McKenzie Lemons and Ben Edwards Lemons, Sr. She attended the Talladega County Training School where she completed high school. She confessed Christ as her belief at an early age. She moved to Gadsden after high school and met her husband and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. To this union six children were born. She was a very loving and caring mother, Big Mama, and Gigi.

On Thursday, May 29th, 2025, the sweet spirit of our loved one peacefully left us. She went to join the savior in that home not built by hand, whom the maker and builder is God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, three children, and one son-in-law.

Clara leaves a legacy of memories to her husband of 65 years, J.L. Coats; three daughters Vanessa (Patrick) Dupree, Debra (Wiley) Majors and Sharon Granger, all of Gadsden, AL.; seven grandchildren Amber Glover (Gaylon) of Houston, TX., LaTwola Douglas of Glencoe, AL., Shell Colton (Kimani) of Gadsden, AL., Wykail Majors of Gadsden, AL., Steven Smith (Susan) of Gadsden, AL., Roderick Douglas Jr. of Ridgeville, AL. and Jasmine Dupree of Gadsden, AL.; fifteen Great Grandchildren; one brother Larry Lemons; a host of nieces nephews, friends and family.
