Clara was born October 29, 1934 to Albert and Evelyn (Ludwig) Galles in Remsen, Iowa. Clara grew up on the farm the oldest of seven. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. She worked a year then left for Presentation Nursing School in Aberdeen with her sister, Shirley. She worked as a nurse at the Flandreau Hospital and, for many years, at the Dells Nursing Home. Clara could be found on a tractor picking corn, mowing for hours, riding 4-wheeler for miles or on a Bean Buggy keeping rambunctious boys spraying weeds and not each other. She worked at a variety of jobs: Grandma’s Cafe, Lone Tree Steakhouse, Prairie Junction (maybe for the social fun) or a day care. She loved babies whether grandkids, great grand kids or day care. She was very social and loved to go back to her hometown for family occasions and to laugh with the relatives. They loved her “Spicy” personality. Clara belonged to the MWC cousin’s group from the Dells area.
She married her husband of 61 years, Jerry Schreier, on April 27, 1957. They met at the wedding of her cousin and Jerry’s sister. Together they raised five children on the family farm. She was a faithful member of St. Mary ‘s Catholic Church. Clara was a member of the Altar Society and, in later years, looked forward to visits from the church ladies.
Clara is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her father, Albert, mother, Evelyn and siblings, Shirley Bontje, Fred Galles, Joe Galles, and Cleo Patch.
She is survived by her five children, Patrick Schreier of Rosemount, MN, Noreen (Jerry) Abrahamson of Omaha, NE, James (Christine) of Hill City, SD, Timothy (Paula) of Dell Rapids, SD, and Jeffrey (Jodie) of Moorhead, MN; ten grandchildren, Colleen Schreier, Diana (Michael) Michalik, Jared (Kelsey) Abrahamson, Elyse (Tyler) Abrahamson, Jocelyn (Josh) Kostal, Emily (Jon) Schroeder, Megan (Eric) Velure, Abby Schreier, Jacob (Trystan) Schreier, and Zacharey (Victoria) Schreier; siblings; Paul Galles, Ron (Connie) Galles, sister-in-law, Lynn Galles, all of Remsen, IA; seven Great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
