Clara Belle Thomason, a beloved homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away on August 14, 2025, in Athens, Georgia. Born on June 26, 1939, in Commerce, Georgia, Clara was a lifelong resident of the area, where her roots ran deep and her contributions to family and friends were immeasurable.
Clara, whose maiden name was Norris, dedicated her life to caring for her home and family. She was known for her unwavering Baptist faith, which was an integral part of her life. In addition to her devotion to her family and her spirituality, Clara had a remarkable passion for flowers, often showcasing her extraordinary green thumb that brought beauty to her surroundings.
She leaves behind a loving family that includes her sons, C.T. Thomason, Joe Edward Thomason, and Ricky (Sandy) Thomason, as well as her daughters, Fannie Samples, Joanne (Billy) Purcell, and Helen (Bobby) Mclendon. Clara was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, and she found immense joy in her role as great-grandmother to 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Clara is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Willie Mae Norris, her beloved husband, RC Thomason, and her siblings, including her sister Ruby Mae Lee and brother Clarence Norris, Jr. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law, Gary Samples.
Visitation for Clara Belle Thomason will be held on August 17, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA 30529. The funeral service will take place the following day, August 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM, also at Ivie Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Academy Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made through out website at www.iviefuneralhomecommerce.com or by calling the funeral home at (706) 335-3178 to help with funeral expenses.
Clara Belle Thomason will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her love of nature, and the strong bonds she cultivated with her family and friends throughout her life. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
