Clara Lou (Anderson) Ward, a beacon of laughter and love, completed her grand tour of life on October 31, 2025, at the age of 83, in the same town where her story began-
Topeka, Kansas. She was born on January 2, 1942, to the late Chester and Vivian (Lowe) Anderson and graduated from Topeka High School in 1960.
Clara's journey was one filled with love and companionship. She was the cherished wife of the late Melvin Spencer and later Anthony Ward, both of whom loved her deeply. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Michelle Simpson and Teresa (Jay) Workman, both of
Topeka, Kansas.
Clara was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Spencer; her grandson, Christopher Workman; and her brother, Robert Anderson-all of whom now join her in her dance to the heavens.
Her grandchildren, Dustin Workman, Jennifer (Juan) Simpson, Stephanie (Cody) Davidson, and Christina (Jason) Stoneking, along with her great-grandchildren Kynlee, Lakyn, Ava, Tymber, and Brisa, will fondly remember her love and the joy she brought into their lives. Clara also leaves behind her nephew, Jackie Hendrix.
Throughout her life, Clara worked a variety of jobs, always giving her best and bringing humor and heart to every task. She also took great pride in being a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt loved and cared for. Of all her endeavors, her most rewarding was owning and operating Clara's Carebears Daycare, where she poured her love into caring for children as if they were her own. The families she served still remember her warmth, patience, and the laughter that filled her home each day.
Clara's greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family. She loved camping trips, family gatherings, and any chance to simply be surrounded by those she loved most. Her family was her proudest accomplishment, and she often said how much she "really enjoyed her family." Those closest to her will forever cherish the memories of her laughter by the campfire, her stories, and the way she made every moment together feel special.
Clara's Christian faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her actions, her generosity, and the love she showed to everyone she met. Her love for travel led her to make friends and memories in every corner she visited-but nothing thrilled her more than the lights and sounds of the casino. Her victory dance to her personal anthem, "I'm in the Money," after a win at the slots became legendary.
In her later years, Clara made her home at the Health Care Resort of Topeka, where she found community, friendship, and plenty of playful competition during games with her friends. Her kindness will echo far beyond the time she spent there.
Clara's life was a testament to faith, love, and laughter, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate to know and love her.
