Clare Colwell

1953 - 2025

Clare Richard Colwell age 72 of Ionia passed away July 28, 2025, after battling cancer. He was born May 12, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Clarence George and Viva Dolores (Freer) Colwell.
Clare went to School in Ionia graduating with class of 1971, later attending Davenport College receiving his bachelor's degree and would finish his education in Finance with his master's degree from Western Michigan University.
He married Barbara J. Kilduff March 31, 1979, at Shiloh Church. Clare worked in the Banking Industry for 40 years and after retiring worked for Lakewood Community Schools for 5 years as a Finance Director. And was currently serving as the Orleans Township Supervisor.
He loved woodworking, golfing and reading WWII history. Family meant everything to Clare, and he will be missed immensely by his family.
Surviving is his loving wife Barb Colwell of Orleans. Children, David Colwell of Garden City, Diane (Nick) Parker of Gaylord and Christopher "Topher" (Charlene) Colwell of Holland. Grandchildren, Jackson Parker, Ryan Parker, Riley Colwell, Cameron Colwell, Emerson Colwell and Barrett Colwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ray Colwell.
Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Visitation will be at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia on Monday, August 4th 4-7 p.m. A celebration luncheon will be at Steele Street Hall 115 S.
