Clare "Rasmussen" Horton

Clare (Rasmussen) Horton of Madison passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026. She was a 1949 graduate of Rocky River High School and a 1954 graduate of Saint John College of Cleveland with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Upon earning her teaching certification, Clare was thrilled to share her joy for learning with the second-grade students at Saint Bernadette School in Westlake, Ohio. Soon after, she married her late husband of 54 years, Herb Horton. Following their marriage, the couple moved first to Mentor and then to Madison, where they raised their family.

Clare was an avid golfer and tennis player who also enjoyed being outside on and along the shores of Lake Erie, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Madison, the Lake County Branch of the American Association of University Women, and Madison Country Club.

Clare was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Horton; infant son Michael; son-in-law Douglas DeLong; parents William and Anna Rasmussen; and sisters Elizabeth Shanks, Ellen Haflinger, and Mary Schempp.

Clare is survived by her son Tim Horton (Shannon Kriegmont); daughters Elizabeth Hartle and Sally DeLong; and grandchildren Kyle DeLong, and Marcus and Delaney Horton.

A Memorial Mass for Clare will take place at 11:00am on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2846 Hubbard Road in Madison. The family will receive guests for one hour prior to the service, 10:00 to 11:00am at the church. Burial will immediately follow at Madison Memorial Cemetery on Arcola Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lake County Humane Society or Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The Behm Family Funeral Home is assisting the family at this time.
