Clarence Benton, Jr., 93, passed away on July 6, 2024, at Lampasas Assisted Living in Lampasas, Texas. He was born on October 28, 1930, in Akron, Ohio to Clarence and Blanche Ross Benton.
Services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10 am with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Clarence grew up in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Turtle Creek High School in Turtle Creek, PA in 1948. After high school, he joined the United States Navy in 1948 and served for four years. He then began work for Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh as a Draftsman. Using the GI bill he went to night school for 10.5 years to get his mechanical engineering degree from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA. He later moved to Westinghouse Nuclear Division and helped to design the Commanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, Texas. He retired in 1994 after 42 years.
Clarence married Florence Toth in 1956 in Pittsburgh, PA. They were happily married for 54 years. He enjoyed golfing, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, and his granddaughter, Morgan.
Survivors include his son, Craig (Donna) Benton of Lampasas, Texas; his son, Keith (Bernice) Benton of Fort Mill, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Michelle (Eric) Kase, Michael Benton, and his fiance Marlowe, Mackenzie (Chisam) Reiter and Brooke Benton; his great-grandchildren, August and Conrad Reiter and Chloe Kase.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the Morgan Benton Scholarship Fund, 105 N. Key Ave., Lampasas, TX, 76550 Attn: Morgan Benton Scholarship Fund.
