Clarence William Clawson Jr.

Clarence William Clawson Jr. of Baldwin, MD passed away on September 20, 2025. He was 88 years old. Clarence was born February 19, 1937, in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Clarence William Clawson Sr. and Olivia Clawson (Watson). He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnical High School or "Poly" in 1955 and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1959. He became a teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools in 1959 at Golden Ring Junior High School. He taught science, math, drafting and wood shop and in 1971 he became a supervisor of Technology Education (Industrial Arts). He married Mary Lou Clawson (Kotchen) in 1972.

Clarence loved cars and he loved going to antique car shows with friends and family. He was an avid woodworker and was always working to build furniture for himself and others. He was skilled in carpentry and helped others with home improvement projects. He enjoyed photography and the outdoors. He was active in both church and Boy Scouts. He loved spending time with his wife, son, daughter in law and grandchildren. He was very fond of summer vacations in Bethany Beach, DE.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Lou Clawson of Baldwin, MD, son Kenneth Lee Clawson, and his wife Cythina Gene Clawson, his two grandchildren Alexander (Xander) Gene Clawson and Avery Elizabeth Clawson and his much-loved grand dog, Roxy all of Sudlersville, MD. He is also survived by his brothers David Clawson (Mary), Thomas Clawson (Sandy), sisters Nancy Gibson and Eileen Sharkey and his brothers in law, John George Kotchen Jr. and Terrence Kotchen. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends, all of whom he cared for deeply.

Services for Clarence will be held on October 18, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sweet Air, MD (3911 Sweet Air Rd, Phoenix, MD 21131), starting with a visitation at 10:00am and followed by service at 11:00am. In Lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Clarence's memory to St. John's Lutheran Church in Sweet Air, MD, and/or Boy Scout Troop 818 (3911 Sweet Air Rd, Phoenix, MD 21131).
