Clarence Long Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roseboro Stradling Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. - Denver on Jan. 28, 2026.
Clarence Earl Long, 88 of Lancaster, known by many as "Sonny" passed away on January 24, 2026.

Clarence was the son of the late Norman and Pauline (Sweigart) Long and husband to F. Diane (Moyer) Long for 63 years.

Clarence lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for family and community. A proud veteran, he served honorably during the Korean War, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and commitment to others.

An accomplished athlete in his early years at Cocalico High School, he signed professional baseball contracts with both the Cleveland and Detroit organizations, reflecting his talent and lifelong passion for the game. Though his professional path ultimately led elsewhere, his love of baseball never faded, and he remained an avid fan throughout his life.

Clarence enjoyed a successful career with RCA before answering a higher calling in public service as a professional firefighter. His distinguished fire service career culminated in his role as Battalion Chief with the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire, where he was respected for his leadership, experience, and unwavering dedication to protecting the community. During and following his retirement from active fire service, he continued to serve the fire industry by selling fire apparatus for Glick Fire Equipment Company, combining his expertise with his commitment to supporting fellow firefighters.

Outside of work, he found great joy in playing golf, watching baseball, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He rarely missed events of his grandchildren and took immense pride in their accomplishments, cherishing every opportunity to support and celebrate them.

His legacy is one of service, integrity, and devotion-to his country, his profession, and his family. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him and deeply missed by those whose lives he touched.

Clarence is survived by his wife Diane, son Matthew, daughter in law Paula, and two grandchildren Alyssa and Jason.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 PM, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. Funeral Services will follow at 3 PM. Interment will be private.

I was fortunate to get to know Clarence while working at Foxchase golf Course. He was ALWAYS positive and upbeat and obviously enjoyed playing with his regular group of guys. I appreciated getting to know him and our causal aquaintance! Blessings to you, his family, Sincerely, Jim Kreider

The Long´s were our neighbors for a long time. Mr. Long was a friendly, caring and respectful man who adored his wife, Diane and son, Matthew. I remember growing up the fun we had as neighbors on Speckled Drive from cookouts, to playing games, shoveling snow and getting together for some laughs. He was a well respected firefighter and took his job seriously. He was a great father and was always there for his son. Additionally, he truly loved his wife Diane. Rest in Heavenly Peace Mr. Long and thank you for being such a wonderful neighbor and friend to our family. Karen Huegel Hills
