Clarence Godwin Mitchell III, lovingly known as C.G. or Troy, age 80, passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2025, at his home in Walker, Louisiana, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence G. Mitchell II and Dorothy M. Gentlich of New Orleans, his brother Dale Mitchell, and his sister Julie Schomer.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Jo Lynn Rushing Mitchell, and his beloved children Lisa and David Overton, Amy Langston, Joshua and April Binns, and Courtney and Garett Caves. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, Marlene Coburn, Gaynell and Erwin Melzer, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Sol Rushing. Troy was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson, and nothing brought him greater joy than cheering them on at their sports games.
He was passionate about archaeology and history, especially the ancient Mayan and Native American cultures. A talented handyman, he took pride in his home and property and was known for his ability to fix anything. Troy loved gardening, hiking, reading, and traveling, and he was a gifted storyteller who enjoyed sharing his deep knowledge of Louisiana’s rich culture and heritage.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the family home, 27020 Gaylord Rd, Walker, LA. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in remembering a wonderful man who lived a full and loving life
