Clarence W. Schampers

Clarence W. Schampers, age 80, of Shawano passed away on Friday November 14, 2025, in Appleton. Clarence was born on December 14, 1944, in Appleton to the late Leo and Rita (Meulemans) Schampers. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy. On October 17, 1974, Clarence was united in marriage to Joan "Joanie" Erdmann at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline, Wisconsin. In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and water skiing. Clarence was dedicated to his job at the Shawano Municipal Airport as a manager for 54 years. He enjoyed being a training pilot and taught many people to fly over the years. Clarence was able to fly fire patrol for DNR. He spent many countless hours working out in his shed on Shawano Lake. Clarence was a wonderful man and wonderful husband; he will be deeply missed.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanie Schampers; siblings, Glenn (Dolly) Schampers, Vonnie (Dan) Diedrick, Leo (Judy) Schampers, Melvin (Lori) Schampers and Mary (Mike) Daul; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Karen Koepke, Warren Erdmann, Darryl Erdmann and Joy Buss. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Clarence is preceded in death by his brother, Alan Schampers and parents, Leo and Rita.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday November 19, 2025, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Pastor Scott Ludford officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday starting at 9:30 am until the time of service. Military Honors will be conducted by the Shawano VFW Post #2723 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date.
