Clarence Trent, known to most as C.A. or Peddler, at age 92 went to be with his Lord January 15, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1933 in Rural Shade, TX to Joe and Viola Trent.
His work ethic started early while he worked as a cotton farmer with his family. He continued with that determination, working for several telephone companies and retiring with Verizon after 35 years.
C.A. met the love of his life, Nancy, and began a family. Together they shared 68 years of marriage and four children. He and his family lived in several different states and towns before settling in Hawkins in 1975. They were active members of First Baptist Church where he was the Sunday school director and sang in the choir.
C.A. had many commitments including the church and his strong relationship with the Lord. He and Nancy led youth trips and shared with boys and girls about the Lord, while also showing the boys how fast he could ski down the mountain, one of his passions. He was also a member of the Hawkins school board, the Hawkins Masonic Lodge, and the Lions Club for many years.
He had countless hobbies and talents from water skiing to snow skiing, hunting, remodeling homes with his wife, fishing, playing sports, cruising down town, board games, playing 42 and just being outside in nature. You could always find him working in the garden, swimming in the pool or going on a walk with his many pups. He often spent time working on a project in his shop, or picking some pretty flowers to bring inside for Nancy. Staying active and outdoors, he’d always say, was what kept him young. But by far his favorite activity was hunting.
He was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren, all of whom he adored and loved spoiling. Having pool parties, or at the lake, taking them on rides, picking berries or working in the garden. He treasured every moment spent with them. Papaw always had open arms to spend time with one or many of his grandchildren.
C.A. was preceded in death by his love, Nancy Trent; parents, Joe and Viola Trent; brothers, Joe Trent Jr., Clayton Trent, Elmer Trent; Sister, June Abbie, and granddaughter, Sarah Anne Mayne.
He is survived by his son, Clarence Earl Trent (Maryann); his three daughters, Charlotte Stephens, Brenda Barkley (Bil) & Bridget Thompson (Cody); grandchildren: Rebekkah Edleman, Ginny Hall, Christina Barber (Joey), Angela Pennington (Travis), Michael Edleman (Ashley), Drew Barkley (Rachel), Meagan Smith (Weston), Austin Mays (Kelly), Danielle Thompson, Tanae Allegrezza (Josh), CJ Thompson, Joshua Trent, Rebecca Trent, Nathan Trent (Ashley), Matthew Trent (Rachel); 29 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren with one on the way; one brother, Douglas Trent (Diana) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for C.A. will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins; where a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bil Barkley, Cody Thompson, Drew Barkley, Michael Edleman, Austin Mays, Cj Thompson, Weston Smith, Travis Pennington, Joey Barber and Josh Allegrezza.
