Clarence J. Turpen, Jr. "Turp," age 73, of Chillicothe, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Clarence was born on August 12, 1951 in Peru, IL to the late Clarence J. and Patricia M. (Smits) Turpen.
Surviving are his daughters, Tara (Mike Mount) Henkins of Sandwich, IL and Libby (Jeff) Schmidgall of Delavan, IL; four grandchildren, Alexis and Karlee Henkins and Ryan and Emily Schmidgall; three sisters, Marion (Mike) Gibson of Princeton, IL, Patricia Murray of Princeton, IL and Rosemary Smith of Morton, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Clarence graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1969. Over the years, he worked for J & L Steel Mill, Caterpillar and Chillicothe Metal. He also drove semi truck for Swift. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and mentored many people through the program. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Clarence enjoyed spending time with his family and friends over a good meal.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 1pm to 4pm at Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
